On January 30, 1882, Franklin Roosevelt was born into a distinguished family on the banks of the Hudson River in New York. Destiny gave him handsome appearance, kind character and intelligent talent. He entered the famous Groton School at the age of 14 and came to Harvard University four years later. In 1901, he joined the Republican Club and began his political career. It was also this year that his cousin Theodore Roosevelt became the youngest president in American history.
Roosevelt was determined to follow the example of his uncle and enter politics, and in 1910 he found an opportunity to make a splash. He planned to run for New York City Senate, but as the Democratic candidate. When he told his uncle the president, who was a Republican, about this decision, the other party angrily cursed: You despicable bastard! You traitor, but Franklin Roosevelt did not change the direction of progress. He rode in a red car and gave more than a dozen speeches a day, and was eventually elected to the New York City Senate. In 1913, President Wilson appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Navy. He served for seven years and performed outstandingly. In 1920, Roosevelt was nominated as the vice presidential candidate. Although the election failed, his light as a rising political star has not diminished.
Wisdom, ability, broad-mindedness, and popularity among the public, it seems that nothing can stop this 39-year-old man from reaching the top of politics. However, a ruthless disaster struck at this moment. In the summer of 1921, Roosevelt took his family on vacation on Campobello Island. After putting out a forest fire, he jumped into the cold sea water and contracted polio. High fever, pain, numbness, and the prospect of lifelong disability did not make Roosevelt give up his ideals and beliefs. He continued to exercise unremittingly in an attempt to regain the ability to walk and stand. The Georgia hot springs he used to treat his illness were known as laughter. A shocking place?
In 1924, he returned to politics on crutches and became governor of New York State in 1928.

He was considered a "monster" when he was born, because his arms were only more than ten centimeters long and weak, with two small palms connected to them with three fingers each. However, as he grew up, he relied on his perseverance to paint with his mouth and feet. He was admitted to the Chinese painting major of Guangxi Art Institute and became the first disabled graduate student in the province. His oral and written works have won more than 20 provincial and national awards and 2 international awards; he is also the winner of China's 100 Good Children and Good Youth Award and the National Talent Award for Disabled Children. The book "Feet and Life" written in 1997 became a national sensation. He is the armless calligrapher and painter Tang Zhanzhong.
Tang Zhanzhong’s relationship with calligraphy was due to an accident. One day, after my brother came home from school, he used a brush to write his red homework. He felt very curious, so he ran to the kitchen, picked up a small piece of charcoal with his feet, and learned how to write from his brother on the floor. This scene was seen by my father who had just returned from farm work. The father thought: Countryside people like to write couplets during festivals and weddings. Why not train his son to practice calligraphy well and earn a living by selling it in the future.
In the blink of an eye, Tang Zhanzhong reached school age, and his father took him to primary school to register, but the school politely refused. The father did not give up and went to the principal to intercede the next day. A week later, he finally entered the school. During the summer vacation of his second grade, Tang Zhanzhong was recommended to join the county's summer calligraphy and painting class. When registering, he wrote a poem on the spot with a brush between his feet, which stunned the receptionist. After that, the teacher began to teach him to practice calligraphy with his right foot. Tang Zhanzhong first used his toes to hold a pen, but he couldn't hold it until his toes were red and swollen. During class, no matter how cold it was, his feet were exposed. He kept bending over when writing, and back pain was a common occurrence? Half a year later, He just used his feet to write a neat and beautiful handwriting.
Later, he heard that he could write and draw with a pen in his mouth, so he started practicing on his own. At first, drool was everywhere and my teeth were numb. But he did not give up. Over time, his mouth became the second method of calligraphy and painting. In order to earn tuition, he went to some tourist areas in Guilin every winter and summer vacation to write calligraphy for tourists. After one holiday, his tuition and living expenses were all covered.
After entering high school, Tang Zhanzhong expanded the area where he sells his works to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and even the whole country. He proudly said: "Since I was in high school, I have never asked for a penny from my family. My brother and I all earned our tuition fees from selling our works. In order to make money, I have not celebrated the New Year at home for several years." ?While Tang Zhanzhong concentrated on studying calligraphy and painting, he did not fall behind in his studies. In 1999, he was admitted to the Fine Arts Department of Guangxi University of the Arts as he wished. Four years later, he was successfully admitted to the school as a graduate student majoring in Chinese painting. In August 2005, when Tang Zhanzhong participated in the 4th National Art Performance for Disabled Persons, he was spotted by the China Disabled Persons Art Troupe and became an actor and administrative staff member of the troupe. Now he is a member of the China Disabled Artists Association, a member of the Guangxi Calligraphers Association and a part-time teacher in a special education school in Nanning.
After the success of Tang Zhan, he never forgot the folks in his hometown or the disabled friends in Guangxi. He always wanted to do something for the disabled group. He became a part-time teacher at Nanning Shede Vocational School for the Disabled, teaching students painting whenever he had time. He took in 4 blind students and 4 able-bodied students and taught them Chinese painting.
He said: "Teaching blind people to draw requires a lot of patience. I am a disabled person myself, so there are many difficulties. But I will overcome the difficulties and try my best to teach them well." ?What Tang Zhan pursues is not just a warm and full life, nor just a feeling of happiness, he wants to pursue a state of mind. His current desire is to go across the ocean to England, develop the calligraphy and painting career of disabled people abroad, and challenge a new peak in life.
