How to understand the melody

Melody: Also known as tune, it is a line of sounds composed according to a certain relationship between high and low, length and strength. It is the most important means of shaping music image and the soul of music.

Rhythm is the relationship between the length and strength of the melody when it is running. More professionally, it is the rhythm that controls the melody, allowing the melody to move forward according to certain rules. Sounds of different pitches are also sounds of different lengths and strengths, so the melody must go hand in hand with the rhythm.

Melody line

Melody consists of two elements, namely melody line (or pitch line) and rhythm. In the continuous melody progression, various linear or curved progressions are formed due to the direction of the pitch. These progressions are similar to the extension or ups and downs of the lines in the picture, so they are called melody lines; regarding the time of the sounds: different sounds produced one after another When the pitch (i.e. melody line) is combined with the length, speed, pause and other expressive functions of various musical rhythms, the melody can form various syntaxes and structures of music.

Rhythm

Vivid language rhythm and rich life rhythm are the natural basis of melody and rhythm; the organic combination of mode, melody line and rhythm is reflected through a certain musical structure , is the complete tune.

Tune

"Tune" is a singing melody or main melody. "Singing melody" is a melody that can express a certain musical idea. "Main melody" (or main melody) ) is the melody that plays a dominant role in the sense of hearing.

Musical meaning

What people are accustomed to referring to as melody actually refers to tunes. Melody can refer to any musical sequence with pitch and rhythm. Melody is the basis for forming parts. Only when the melody is first formed can the parts be produced and thus have an impact. For example, the four parts in a four-part harmony each have their own melody progression, and a certain melody with a sense of tune will appear as the main melody part.

The parts of main-key music are interdependent, and the melody of only one part has a sense of tune, so we are accustomed to calling it the "main melody". Polyphonic music is music composed of melodies with independent meanings that are combined with each other, and all parts have a sense of tune.

In terms of the relationship between sounds, it also corresponds to "harmony" (a concept of simultaneous sounding, which does not refer to the knowledge of "harmony" and "harmony" composition). Harmony is Vertically, the melody is horizontal. For example, a harmonic interval is when two sounds sound at the same time, and what is studied is the auditory sensation produced when two sounds sound at the same time. Melody intervals refer to two sounds being sounded separately, and what is studied is the listening sensation produced when two sounds are sounded separately. With the same musical interval distance, there is a big difference in hearing between harmonic intervals and melodic intervals.
