Speaking of Hong Kong film and Hong Kong music, these are really two things that left a deep impression on me during my childhood and adolescence.
As for Hong Kong movies, in my mind they should be divided into Hong Kong movies and Hong Kong TV series.
1. Hong Kong Movies
When I was very young, the most important way to watch movies besides going to the cinema was to watch home VCDs and DVDs. The vast majority of what everyone watches are Hong Kong movies, and it has been the prime time for Hong Kong movies for a long time.
When talking about Hong Kong movies, we have to mention the following themes:
(1) Martial arts movies
The martial arts novels written by Hong Kong people are very good. The martial arts movies made by people are also very good. Many people born in the 70s and 80s have martial arts dreams, mostly influenced by Hong Kong movies. But my personal favorite is the comedy "East and West" among martial arts movies. This movie simply appeals to my aesthetic point of view.
(2) Police and gangster movies
The police and gangster movies in Hong Kong movies are also very good, with regional characteristics and great tension. There are kung fu police and gangster films made in Jackie Chan's area, and there are also romance police and gangster films that young people prefer, but generally speaking, they are very in line with the current aesthetic, so the box office is not bad. The one that impressed me the most is "Xin Zha Junior Sister" .
(3) Comedy Movies
Stephen Chow is simply the ceiling of comedy movies. Although some people later commented that he had exhausted his talents, he really brought many more beautiful memories than us. "Westward Journey", "Tang Bo Hu Spots Autumn Fragrance", etc. are all excellent works, and he is just a part of Hong Kong comedy movies.
2. Hong Kong TV series
TVB may be a company we knew when we were very young, because many of the TV series we saw when we were children were from Hong Kong. When I was in school, Hong Kong TV dramas were probably the only ones that could directly compete with the Korean Wave.
(1) Martial arts dramas
The martial arts dramas shot in Hong Kong require costumes. They are not particularly beautiful, but the plots are reasonable and the acting skills are online. Every martial arts series is a classic. For example, my Hong Kong TV series was inspired by "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", and my favorite martial arts drama is "Dragon". Every character in it is exactly what I imagined it to be. .
(2) Industry dramas
Different from the content of many idol dramas that are filmed under the title of industry dramas, although Hong Kong’s industry dramas also have some storylines in them, It’s more about showcasing the industry. "Wonderful Hands", "The Negotiator"...many of them are TV series that I still watch over and over again.
(3) Family and court dramas
Many people mention palace dramas, not the "The Legend of Zhen Huan" that is particularly popular now, but "The Golden Branch" filmed by TVB a few years ago. "Desire", this TV series can be regarded as the originator of palace fighting dramas. Every female character in it is very distinct and full-bodied.
As for the Hong Kong Philharmonic, I think the most amazing thing about Hong Kong music is that every era has its representatives.
(1) The Era of the Four Heavenly Kings
Of course, the era of the Four Heavenly Kings is not the beginning of Hong Kong movies, it is just the beginning of my personal memory of Hong Kong music. Because at that time, my cousin often told me about them. Although I didn’t understand them, I can still remember the melody of the songs they sang at that time.
(2) The era when a hundred flowers bloom
The reason why it is called the era when a hundred flowers bloom is because I feel that there were many outstanding Hong Kong musicians in that era. Eason Chan, Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung... There were many excellent singers during this period, and they also created many excellent songs.
Unfortunately, it seems that the current Hong Kong music circle has also experienced a gap. There are not many people in the new generation who are particularly famous. But this also gives the older generation of musicians more opportunities. Many Hong Kong musicians have become famous through some variety shows. For example, "Sister Riding the Wind and Waves", which has been very popular in the past two years, has many excellent Hong Kong singers.
