History

The history of Dongguan can be traced back to the Neolithic Age, and Haogang people already lived here. During the Xia Dynasty, Dongguan belonged to Nanjiao. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Dongguan belonged to the land of Baiyue. In 214 BC, Qin Shihuang annexed Lingnan, and Dongguan belonged to Panyu County, Nanhai County. Emperor Shun of the Han Dynasty divided the land of Panyu and established Zengcheng County, and Dongguan was under the rule of Zengcheng.

In the sixth year of Xianhe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (331), Dongguan County was established, initially named Bao'an and subordinate to Dongguan County. In the second year of Zhide (757) of the Tang Dynasty, the name was changed to Dongguan, and the county seat was placed in Yong (today's Guancheng). In the 22nd year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1152), Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City) was established from Xiangshan Town in Dongguan. In the first year of Wanli of the Ming Dynasty (1573), Xin'an County (today's Shenzhen City) was established with 56 li of households registered by Dongguan Shouyu Qianhu.

It is said that Dongguan is the pronunciation of Dongguan. Some people say that it got its name because it is located in the east of Guangzhou (today’s southeast) and is rich in aquatic plants (guancao). Or there were overseas Chinese from Dongguan County in the past. Living here, I thought it was similar to his hometown, hence the name.

In the Qing Dynasty (1839), Lin Zexu sold cigarettes in Humen, Dongguan, and then the Opium War broke out. During the Anti-Japanese War, Dongguan was one of the anti-Japanese base areas of the Dongjiang Column.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Dongguan came under the jurisdiction of Dongjiang Administrative Region; in 1952 it came under the jurisdiction of Central Guangdong Administrative Region, and in 1956 it came under the jurisdiction of Huiyang Prefecture. In September 1985, Dongguan County was abolished and Dongguan City (county level) was established, under the jurisdiction of Huiyang area. On January 7, 1988, the State Council approved the upgrade of Dongguan City from a county-level city to a prefecture-level city, directly under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province.

Brief description

Dongguan, referred to as Wan, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, the Republic of China, and is adjacent to the Pearl River to the west. It borders Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Huizhou. Dongguan is one of the "Four Little Tigers of Guangdong". It is an important commercial, high-tech industry, service industry, tourism and industrialized city in the Pearl River Delta. Geography

Dongguan City is located in the south of Guangdong Province, on the east bank of the Pearl River Estuary, in the middle and lower reaches of the Dongjiang River in the Pearl River Delta. The geographical coordinates are 113°31′-114°15′ east longitude and 22°39′-23°09′ north latitude.

The easternmost is Yinpingzui Mountain in Xiegang Town, the southernmost is Yantian Reservoir in Yantian Village, Fenggang Town, the westernmost is the Shiziyang Center Route in Xidatan Village, Shatian Town, and the northernmost is Zhongtang The central route of the North Branch of the Dongjiang River in the Datan Group of Huangyong Village, Zhenhuang. Dongguan City borders Huicheng District and Huiyang District of Huizhou City to the east, Longgang District and Baoan District of Shenzhen City to the south, Nansha District, Panyu District and Luogang District of Guangzhou City to the west, and Zengcheng District and Guangzhou City to the north. Culture and Art

Dongguan is a famous historical and cultural city in Guangdong Province. Cantonese opera and Cantonese opera sung in Guangzhou dialect have a long history in Dongguan. It is the product of local folk music absorbing the Central Plains culture and drawing on Western performance techniques. It is now the most popular among local folk. With a wide range of local music and drama, Dongguan is known as the hometown of Cantonese opera and Cantonese opera.

Dongguan's paintings were influenced by Ju Chao and Ju Lian, the pioneers of the Lingnan School of Painting.
