The director's introduction
tim burton was born on August 25th, 1958. As a result, Burton Jr. has been addicted to his personal world and likes to express his feelings and life with paintings. Later, he studied art in california institute of the arts, and after receiving a scholarship sponsored by Disney Company for young animators, he began to formally study and engage in animation. At first, he worked for the mainstream TV cartoons such as The Fox and the Hound of Disney Company, but these did not give full play to his unique advantages of personal inspiration, so Disney gave him some freedom to engage in his own projects.
In the early 198s, Burton produced two short films, Vincent and Frankenstein. One was a tribute to the horror film actor Vincent, and the other was a children's adaptation of Frankenstein. From the subject matter, we can see the tendency of Burton's animation experimental short films, but these early works reveal Burton's personal taste and quality too much, and were initially considered unsuitable for children to watch, and were banned forever. But Paul Rubens (also known as Pee Wee Herman) has a unique eye. Seeing that this young man in his twenties has good potential, he asked him to make a slightly higher-cost "Great Adventure". This is not only a wonderful film, but also a great success at the box office. As a result, Burton began to become a striking new school director in Hollywood. Then, he directed a supernatural comedy "Beetle Juice". This weird and avant-garde film once again made the audience and film critics look at the young director with special respect, and also made him stand out among the filmmakers of animated cartoons.
In 1989, at the age of 3, Tim Burton got a great opportunity to develop his career and was able to direct the big-budget film Batman. This is a surreal entertainment film based on the best-selling comic book of the same name. The comic book style and surreal film world provide Burton with the best space for his imagination. But Hollywood's unchanging principle for many years is that the bigger the budget, the more the film is constrained. Burton's personal style in this film can't be well highlighted, but in any case, it is still a strange and dark film labeled Burton, which has an extraordinary style and tone in Hollywood blockbusters. The film was also a great success at the box office. In 199, with the success of the last film, Burton filmed the film Edward Scissorhands, which was a combination of strangeness and romance. The film tells a romantic and touching fairy tale about a "strange boy of science" with scissors hands and messy long hair and a caring ordinary girl. This is his best-looking, most famous and clearest early work. Although Edward, the protagonist, looks weird and even a little scary, the film exudes cheerfulness and romance. During the filming of this film, he also established and developed a fruitful working relationship with Johnny Depp, the leading actor of the film.
In 1992, he finished the second episode of Batman, Batman Comes Back. Because of the success of the first episode, Burton has more freedom to deal with his own films. As a result, the tone of this film is even darker than the first episode, which even attracted Warner's dissatisfaction, but fortunately, the film sold well.
In 1993, a distinctive animated feature film Night in Weird City came out. This is another successful "battle" for Burton to continue his animation career. Although he only appeared in the credits as a story and producer, the film was named "Night in a Weird City in tim burton", which was obviously branded as Burton, and even a film that carried Burton's style to the end.
In 1994, with memory and respect, tim burton completed the biographical film "Edward D. Wood Jr" based on the life of a legendary silent film director in Hollywood. This is a notorious horror silent film director. His life and behavior are notorious in real life, but in the film Burton emphasizes his unique personal ideas and persistent pursuit of movies. From the broadcast of a documentary about Edward D. Wood Jr's life at the end of the film, we can see that he got Burton's sympathy, understanding and even some appreciation. The inflammatory film also gives the audience a new understanding of Wood. The film's box office and reviews in the United States are not good, but there is no denying that it is a very personal and emotional film, and it was nominated for the best film at Cannes Film Festival.
In 1995, Burton produced Batman Forever, the third episode of the film Batman series. The unhappiness between Burton and Warner prevented him from completing his series. In 1996, Tim Burton directed a sci-fi film "Martians Attack the Earth" with an alien theme. This surreal film enabled him to exert his imagination again. The strange alien image and the plot idea close to farce made this film show different textures from other films with similar themes.
After several years of silence, in 1999, Burton directed a costume film "sleepy hollow", which is another surreal film full of dark imagination. In the film, Burton seems to be deliberately playing a really hurtful joke with the audience. People are cut down like melons and fruits, and all women and children are spared. Burton, on the other hand, didn't play with nervousness and terror, but just teased the audience's endurance leisurely. Except for the protagonist, it seems that everyone's murder doesn't matter. Of course, you don't need to be nervous or excited. This is Burton's "black" joke. At the end of this film, which took place at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, Burton swept away the practical jokes in the film, but paid a warm and hopeful tribute to the audience on the threshold of the 21st century.
in 2, Burton will dedicate a film "X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes" to the audience. I believe that we will be conquered by Burton's "black" imagination again.
