This is my own method and perception of listening to concerts. I hope it will be helpful to you. I think that to better appreciate a concert, in addition to abiding by the rules, you should have your own feelings after the concert and understand the stories behind the performers.
I attended two concerts last December, both by my favorite musicians. One is the Chinese violinist Huang Mengla, and the other is the famous French pianist Richard Clayderman. I grew up listening to the piano music he played since I was a child. It was because I listened to these pieces more and more that I liked them more and more, so I decided to learn piano.
When I was in school in Tianjin, whenever my favorite musicians came to Beijing or Tianjin, I would go to their concerts. Even if I only have enough money to buy the lowest price ticket, I will go.
I have studied piano since I was a child, and I know that becoming a pianist is not easy. I am very grateful that his music has always accompanied me when I was depressed and sad, and I have always wanted to experience his concerts in person. So when I grow up and have the opportunity, I will definitely go. All the efforts they put in were worth the price of this concert. Everyone only saw them on the stage intoxicated by the music, but they didn't know that behind them they had been putting in time and energy to practice for ten years.
After becoming famous, you have to maintain your level. The piano is the same as the violin. If you don’t practice for a few days, you will feel rusty. If you don’t practice for a few months, it will basically be useless.
Pure music is a language without borders.
Although symphony, violin, piano and other concerts do seem far away from us, it does not mean that we do not have the right to enjoy music. Forget it if you don’t know how to appreciate it, there are still people who think you are pretending to be superior or superior. I dare you to ask how miserable such people must be in real life to think this way?
Huang Mengla accidentally saw his interview in a music magazine when he was in college. When he returned to his dormitory, he immediately downloaded and listened to his recorded violin music and marveled at his superb violin skills. Huang Mengla, who won the gold medal at the 49th Paganini International Violin Competition at the age of 22, relies not only on talent, but more importantly, on acquired hard work. It takes a lot of self-discipline to reach such a state.
But unfortunately, not all people were present in the hall for the entire concert. Maybe it was because he was not well-known in Kunming, or maybe everyone was not very interested in violin playing. But he is a relatively famous violinist in the foreign music industry, and foreign media also highly praises him.
There was a book signing after the show, and most of the people queuing up to buy CDs were children learning violin, accompanied by their parents. The children were as excited and happy to see him as they were to see their idol, and they laughed happily when they got the signed CD. I waited until the end. After Huang Mengla signed his autograph, I had the opportunity to chat with him briefly for a few minutes. The impression left on me by Teacher Huang is that he is calm and easy-going, not aloof, not pretentious, and very sincere.
One minute on stage, ten years of hard work off stage. Especially when he played Paganini's violin music at the end, the whole audience was excited! To reach the level of a "violinist", you need to put in a lot of hard work and sacrifice a lot of rest time. I didn’t ask Teacher Huang about his usual practice time, but I saw a scar under his neck, which was the mark left on him by time. If there are no marks on your neck when you play the violin, it means you are not playing the violin hard enough and there are thick calluses on your hands.
And Richard Clayderman, my favorite pianist since I was a child, is also relatively familiar to everyone. In that era before CDs, computers and the Internet, tapes of his piano music were often played in small tape recorders.
Many people born in the 80s and 90s have listened to his piano music, even our parents. I used to look forward to one day being able to listen to him live. When he came to Beijing when I was in college, I had already returned home. I missed many opportunities at the wrong time, and finally made it happen in December this year.
His concerts were packed with people, perhaps because he is so popular in China that people of all ages know about him. A friend of mine was lucky enough to be the photographer at Richard's concerts, and he took all the photos of Richard in the article.
Actually, to be honest, his piano skills are still weaker than other pianists, but this does not affect my love for him. I like Richard Clayderman, mostly because of my childhood feelings. If I hadn’t met him, I probably wouldn’t have studied piano and persisted for so long.
We always feel that high art is too far away from us. For example, we cannot understand the works of Van Gogh and Monet, or understand symphonies, but this does not mean that we should look at those who like high art differently. , and even say some sarcastic and mocking words.
In addition to work and rest, there is also music in life. Don't let the violin and piano stay too far away from you. After all, in addition to the immediate hardships, life also has poetry and distance.
