Tan Dun (Tan Dun, August 18, 1957-), a famous composer, currently lives in New York, USA. A follower of John Cage, known for his unconventional audiovisual methods, musical theater and extensive pastiche in his own work (audio as well as his other works), he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
Life
Born on August 18, 1957 in the suburbs of Changsha, Hunan.
When he was in high school, he was sent to a rural area to join the opera team, and later started his career as a professional musician in the county Peking Opera Troupe.
In 1978, he was admitted to the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Zhao Xingdao and Li Yinhai and received a master's degree in composition.
Received a scholarship from Columbia University in the United States in 1986, studied with David Dowski and Zhou Wenzhong and obtained a doctorate.
In 2001, he won the Oscar for Best Original Score for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
