Xinghai Conservatory of Music is located in Guangzhou, the cultural center of Lingnan. It is the only higher music professional institution in South China. Its school history can be traced back to the professional music school "Guangzhou Conservatory of Music" founded in 1932 by Mr. Ma Sicong and Chen Hong, the pioneers of modern music education in China. After the changes of "Guangzhou Music School", "Guangzhou Music College" and "Guangzhou Conservatory of Music", in December 1985, in memory of People's Musician Xian Xinghai, "Guangzhou Conservatory of Music" was renamed Xinghai Conservatory of Music.
The college currently has ten departments, including the Department of Composition, the Department of Musicology, the Department of Music and Sound Directing, the Department of Piano, the Department of Vocal Music, the Department of Folk Music, the Department of Orchestral Music, the Department of Music Education, the Department of Social Music, and the Department of Dance. It also has a graduate department, a music research institute, a journal editorial department, a music psychology laboratory, a Lingnan music development research center, a Lingnan music exhibition hall, a music science and technology experimental center, a basic education department, a continuing education department, an affiliated secondary music school and three Experimental orchestras (symphony orchestras, folk orchestras and choirs). Different levels of schooling have been formed for technical secondary schools, undergraduates, and postgraduates.
Our college currently has 320 on-the-job teaching and scientific research personnel. Among them, 111 have senior professional titles; 118 have intermediate professional titles; 77 have obtained doctorate or master's degrees. In addition, our school has long-term hired more than 20 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, including Popova, Alexander Peter, Zhou Wenzhong, Dan Zhaoyi, Li Mingqiang, Chen Yi, and Lin Yaoji, as visiting professors. It has also established inter-school exchange and cooperation relationships with eight well-known foreign music schools and art schools.
Our school currently has a practical teaching area of ??334 acres; including a modern concert hall with complete functions and advanced equipment, an audio-visual room, a high-end recording studio, an electronic music production center, various rehearsal halls, and an academic lecture hall and Qinfang Building, etc.; our college relies on Guangdong, a powerful economic province, and takes advantage of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee’s proposal to build a “cultural province” and is increasing its efforts in campus construction. After the main body moves into "Guangzhou University Town" in January 2005, the school's educational environment and conditions will be further optimized.
Under the guidance of the Party’s reform and opening up policy and educational guidelines, our school has gradually developed into a professional music education center based in South China, oriented to the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, and radiating to Southeast Asian countries. The musicology of our school is even more popular in Guangdong. Provincial key musicology discipline. Since its establishment, the college has sent more than 6,000 musical talents of various types to the society and trained 25 undergraduate graduates; most of the graduates have become members of art schools, research institutions, literary and art groups, cultural media, enterprises and institutions in South China. Some of the backbones of cultural management have become musicians and music educators renowned at home and abroad. In recent years, the employment rate of our graduates has been at the forefront of universities in Guangdong Province, and has therefore received widespread attention and praise from all walks of life.
It can be foreseen that in the next few years, Xinghai Conservatory of Music will leap to a new level with a new look.
