New age music, world music, new folk music, the characteristics and distinction between the three

These three styles are often intertwined and mixed, and there is no need to divide them too finely.

Their sources are different.

The classification of new age music styles is very complex and covers a wide range of styles. There are pure acoustics, pure electronic instruments, or a mixture of the two. It has strong compatibility and can be integrated into various music styles, so it does not have very fixed characteristics and modes. I think it is more of a concept. The music as a whole tends to be harmonious, with few dissonant feelings, and it belongs to the category of popular music.

World music refers to music originating from various ethnic groups around the world. It has strong regional color and is different from mainstream pop music. It is often integrated with new age music.

New folk music is a domestic concept. To put it bluntly, it is a combination of Chinese and Western elements. Traditional Chinese national music elements are combined with Western and European music arrangements to make it more popular and people-friendly.

These three styles have no fixed patterns and routines, so they are not so clear and easy to distinguish, and many of them draw on other root styles, such as jazz, rock, electronic, folk, etc.

To be specific, you have to listen more. Many musicians and music groups will have both the above two and three style labels at the same time, and everyone’s preferences are different. You can’t like all the same style. For example, in new age music, I personally prefer music that is mainly played acoustically or with modern instrumental music that has a strong electronic flavor and heavy atmosphere. I don’t really like it.
