Sichuan Conservatory of Music was formerly known as the "Sichuan Provincial Drama Education Experimental School" founded in 1939. It subsequently went through the "Sichuan Provincial Music Experimental School", "Sichuan Provincial Vocational College", "Sichuan Provincial Technical College" and "Sichuan Provincial Experimental School of Drama Education". During the development period such as "Established Art College", "Chengdu Art College", and "Southwest Music College"; in 1959, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was upgraded and renamed Sichuan Conservatory of Music, becoming one of the six undergraduate-level schools in the country at that time One of the professional music schools.

In 1986, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the school obtained the right to award master's degrees.

At the undergraduate level, the school has three disciplines: art, management, and engineering, 8 majors, and 29 undergraduate majors (126 professional directions).
