Dengfeng City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhengzhou City, the capital of Henan Province. It was called Yangcheng and Songyang in ancient times. It is located in the hinterland of the Central Plains and at the southern foot of Zhongyue Songshan Mountain. Dengfeng has a rich history and splendid culture.

The Xia Dynasty, the first dynasty in China, established its capital in Yangcheng, which is now Dengfeng. "Dengfeng" and "success" are due to the fact that in 696 AD, Wu Zetian "climbed" Songshan Mountain and "sealed" Zhongyue, which was a great achievement. To get the name, an edict was issued to change Songyang County to Dengfeng County and Yangcheng County to Gaocheng County. In the Jin Dynasty, the two counties were merged into Dengfeng County.

Shaolin Temple

Shaolin Temple is located at the foot of Wuru Peak at the northern foot of Shaoshi Mountain, 13 kilometers northwest of Dengfeng County. It was founded in the 20th year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (496), so the temple was built in a dense jungle at the foot of Shaoshi Mountain, hence the name "Shaolin". As it is said in "Shuo Song": "Shaolin is the forest of young people."

Shaolin Temple is a world-famous Buddhist temple and the ancestral temple of Zen Buddhism in Chinese Buddhism. It occupies an important position in the history of Chinese Buddhism and is known as "the most famous temple in the world". Shaolin Kungfu is famous all over the world because of the continuous development and research of Shaolin Kungfu by successive generations of Shaolin monks. It is known as "the Kungfu in the world comes from Shaolin, and Shaolin Kungfu is the best in the world".

Songshan

Songshan was called "Waifang" in ancient times, "Shangshan" and "Shangshan" in the Xia and Shang Dynasties, and "Yueshan" in the Western Zhou Dynasty, with Songshan as the center left. Dai (Taishan) and Huashan (Huashan) were designated as Zhongyue, and it was originally called "Zhongyue Songshan".

Songyang Academy

Songyang Academy is located at the southern foot of Songshan Mountain in Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou, Henan Province. It was founded in the eighth year of Taihe (484 AD) of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty. It was called Songyang Temple at that time. In the Tang Dynasty, it was changed to Songyang Temple. In the Five Dynasties, it was renamed Taishi Academy in the Zhou Dynasty.

The founders of the "Luoxue" of the Song Dynasty's scholarship, Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, both taught at Songyang Academy. Since then, Songyang Academy has become one of the birthplaces of the Song Dynasty's scholarship. The academy was destroyed by war in the late Ming Dynasty and rebuilt during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty.

Songyang Academy has gone through many additions and repairs over the generations. Its scale has gradually taken shape and its layout has become increasingly strict. The structure of the academy is simple, elegant, and generous. Songyang Academy, Henan Suiyang Academy (also known as Yingtian Academy), Hunan Yuelu Academy, and Jiangxi Bailudong Academy are known as the four major academies in my country.

Sanhuang Village

Sanhuang Village is a natural mountain village hanging on the hillside of Shaoshi. The entire scenic area is steep and slippery, and the top of the mountain is flat and wide. It has the characteristics of the majesty of Mount Tai, the danger of Mount Hua, the wonder of Beiheng, and the beauty of Nanheng. It is famous in the Central Plains for its strange peaks, dangerous roads, strange rocks, and beautiful scenery. It was named because people commemorated the achievements of the three emperors (Emperor of Heaven, Emperor of Earth and Emperor of Humanity) in the Songshan area.

Zhongyue Temple

Zhongyue Temple is located at the foot of Taishi Mountain at the southern foot of Songshan Mountain, 4 kilometers east of Dengfeng City, Henan Province. It leans on Huanggai Peak at its back, faces Yuan Mountain in the north, faces Chaoling Mountain in the west, and has Muzi Ridge in the east. It is surrounded by mountains. It has a rigorous layout and a grand scale. It has red walls and yellow tiles, and is resplendent. It has a total area of ??110,000 square meters. The crown of Zhongzhou ancestral temples is the largest and most complete ancient building complex in the Five Mountains, and the largest and most complete ancient building complex in Henan Province. Such a grand, elegant and solemn temple is rare in the country.

Star Observation Deck

The Star Observation Deck was built in the Yuan Dynasty. Guo Shoujing used it as a central point to observe and calculate the most advanced calendar in the world at that time - the "Time Calendar". The accuracy is only 26 seconds different from the current Gregorian calendar, but the creation time was 300 years earlier.

Huishan Temple

Huishan Temple was built in the period of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (471~499 AD). There are 9 buildings in the temple from the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. It was the place where astronomers and a group of monks practiced as monks. The existing buildings of the Yuan Dynasty are the most typical and precious masterpieces of that time (1279~1368 AD). Huishan Temple is the place where monk Yi Xing, a representative figure of Buddhism who participated in astronomical activities and the study of the evolution of ancient Chinese cosmology, practiced as a monk. It is a testimony of representatives of Buddhism and the concept of "in the world".

Music Ceremony

"Zen Shaolin Music Ceremony" is a large-scale cultural performance project. The project is located in Taixian Valley, ten kilometers west of Dengfeng City and 7 kilometers away from Shaolin Temple.

It is produced by the artistic director and original music director Tan Dun who has won the Oscar for original music; produced by the famous planner Mei Yuanshuai who successfully planned "Impression·Liu Sanjie"; Professor Yi Zhongtian of Xiamen University serves as Zen consultant; Shaolin Temple Abbot Shi Yongxin is the cultural consultant of Shaolin Temple; the famous Shaolin Temple cultural consultant Dance expert Huang Doudou serves as the choreographer.

The "Zen Shaolin Music Ceremony" is a large-scale performance, integrating music and painting, with Zen and martial arts performances by nearly 600 people, live singing by Shaolin monks, changes in the landscape in spring, summer, autumn and winter, and Buddhist music that directly points to the mind. Zen sounds synthesize the glorious symphony of Zhongyue Songshan Mountain. The scheduled performance at 8:00 every night has become a highlight of Central Plains cultural tourism.
