Xiliang in ancient times was mainly located in Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, Gansu Province.

"Liangzhou" in Chinese history is not just Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, Gansu Province today. According to expert research, the music and dance mural in Cave 220 of the Dunhuang Grottoes shows the scene of playing "Xiliang Music". In the mural, there are 28 members of the band, divided into two groups, facing each other. The musicians are either bare-chested or draped in heavenly clothes. They have different skin colors and hair styles. They play music from the Central Plains and imported from the Western Regions and foreign countries.
