Gaoshan folk songs have greatly different musical characteristics due to different internal branches. Some branches use a pentatonic scale without semitones, and some ancient ballads often use three tones. For example, the songs of the Ami people use the three-tone tune "LaDoMi", and the folk songs of the Zou area use the three-tone tune "DoMiSol". The pentatonic feather scale is commonly used in Gaoshan folk songs in Paiwan and Rukai areas. Gong mode is also used more often. The levy style is also not uncommon. There are both pentatonic scales without semitones and pentatonic scales with semitones. The specific application methods are very diverse. Such as [DoMiFaSol], [DoMiPaSolLa], [DoMiFaSolSi], [SolSiDoReMiPa], etc. Large jump intervals are more commonly used. The rhythm is relatively regular. Because there are many dance songs, they generally have a distinct sense of rhythm. The multi-part folk songs of the Gaoshan people are relatively developed.
