Wuhan Conservatory of Music is the only independently established higher music institution in central my country. In 1953, the Central South Music College, which was formed from the music departments of the Central South College of Literature and Art, the South China People's College of Literature and Art, and the Guangxi Provincial Art College, was the starting point for the establishment of the Wuhan Conservatory of Music.

Its predecessors include the Music Department of Wuchang Art College (1930), Hunan Provincial Music College (1947), Guangxi Provincial Art College (1946), Guangdong Provincial Art College (1938), Guangzhou Municipal Art College (1947) and Hong Kong Chinese Conservatory of Music (1947), etc., together form the rich, diverse and profound historical heritage of music education of Wuhan Conservatory of Music.

In 1958, Central South Music College and Wuhan Art Normal College merged to form Hubei University of the Arts. In 1985, it was renamed Wuhan Conservatory of Music.

Professional Overview:

The school is among the first batch of master's degree-granting units in the country, the first batch of key discipline construction units in Hubei Province, and the first batch of domestic first-class discipline construction universities in Hubei Province. Music and Dance is one of the first batch of domestic first-class disciplines in Hubei Province. There are three professional master's degree authorization points in Music and Dance, Law (Marxist Theory and Ideological and Political Education) and Master of Arts (Music and Dance Fields).

Existing departments include the Department of Composition, the Department of Musicology, the Department of Chinese Music, the Department of Piano, the Department of Orchestral Music, the Department of Vocal Music, the Department of Dance, the School of Music Education, the School of Performing Arts, the Graduate School, the School of Marxism, and the Public *** Basic Course Department, School of Continuing Education (including Adult Undergraduate Education), Affiliated Middle School (Affiliated Primary School) and other teaching units. There are education levels of primary school attached to music, middle school attached to music, undergraduate, master's degree and doctoral degree (joint training).
