The Calling is a Los Angeles rock band based on the decadent style of Southern California and creates music that is both hearty and unconventional. New powerhouse. Driven by the creation of guitarist Alan Kamen and vocalist Alex Band, The Calling invited Marc Tanner to produce with their first album "Camino Palmero" released under RCA Records. With well-known mixer Chris Lord-Alge invited to mix the eight songs in the album, the new album presents a poignant insight into love and loss, rejection and redemption.
“Too many people get lost by writing songs only for themselves,” Alan Kemen said of his approach to the band. "The world is a big place, and as music creators, we are bystanders who describe what we see and feel."
Based on the above reasons, The Calling makes full use of the skill and atmosphere of the soul man Alan Kaimen. Brilliant guitar playing, and Alex Bender's remarkable and moving vocals. "I really think he's a genius," Kemen said of his costar. "He's very sincere. You really believe in what he sings." The two parties clearly admire each other. "Alan is great, too. He's always leading us in songwriting, and he plays guitar really well."
The dynamic creative energy between them didn't develop overnight . Alex and Allen both grew up in and around Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. The pair met when the older Allen started dating Alex's sister a few years ago. Once Allen saw Alex's guitar at home and couldn't help but become curious. "I asked his sister if he played well, and she said it was great. Alex was fifteen when she told me, and I said, 'Oh! Come on!' But once I heard him sing, I understood His singing was truly unique, and the age gap was no longer an issue." Over the next few months, the two began playing together as much as possible. Alex recalls: “My sister finally said to Ellen, ‘Are you going to play music with my brother or are you going to date me?’ Well, we’re still playing music together.” The energy and persistence of adolescence finally came to an end. There is a price. An RCA Records A&R discovered the pair, and what started as encouragement turned into a real contract. The next few years gave the pair plenty of time to form a full band, and they began to perform around the Southern California music scene. “Our first band was called Generation Gap,” Alex recalls. "We found the band members from the 'Recycler' classifieds. Our first drummer was fifty-eight and our bassist was forty, and we thought that was cool."
In the end, the departure of the old members brought them back to their original form. "We locked ourselves away and wrote about a hundred songs," Alex said. Allen also added, "We knew the only way to earn respect was to write songs deep in everyone's heart." And this focused energy was rewarded with a series of excellent songs, including those included on the new album ’s work, even more explosive work in live performance. Allen said: "It's really cool to be able to go into a place where people ask, 'Who are these guys?' and then watch yourself conquer them with your music."
When "Camino When the recording of "Palmero" was finally completed, The Calling were ready to return to the stage in a wider field.
They had previously performed an unforgettable scene singing "Wherever You Will Go" live in the blockbuster movie "Coyote Ugly". Together with Sean Wustanium, Billy Muller and Knight Wood, Alex and Allen are currently preparing for their first national tour. But no matter how hectic the next few months will be, deep in the souls of the members there is still a calm confidence. "We never stop writing songs," Alex said. "People who work with us understand that inspiration comes fast and furious. It's a real thing."
And once fans heard The Calling's debut album under RCA, They will understand how true this is. With well-crafted songs and sincere and impressive performances, it's no wonder so many fans have succumbed to the charm of The Calling in a short period of time.
