Paper-cut is a folk art form with a long history. The main forms of Shaanxi paper-cutting include window flowers, kiln roof flowers, kang surround flowers, door paintings, hangings, curtains, pillow flowers, table skirt flowers, shoe flowers, double wedding flowers, clothing accessories flowers, shrine appliques, etc. Shaanxi paper-cuts are mostly made by peasant women and are characterized by simplicity, roughness, conciseness and clarity. Most of them are hollow round sculptures, and there are also relief hanging pieces. The production method is simple and easy. Mix clay and paper pulp into plastic clay, make a mold first, turn it into an embryo and let it dry, and then paint, paint and polish it. Fengxiang painted clay sculptures have a long history. It is said that Zhu Yuanzhang's army was stationed here in the Ming Dynasty. Most of the soldiers were Jiangxi veterans who later settled down as citizens. They all knew how to make pottery and made toys and gifts during their spare time. Over time, they continued to process and improve them, developing into today's painted clay sculptures. The main place of production of Fengxiang painted clay sculptures is still in Liuying Village, which was named after an ancient military unit.
