Rhythm is the life of music.
Orff believed that the first element of music is rhythm. In Orff's music education theory, he emphasized the importance of rhythm as the skeleton and life of music. He believes that rhythm is the basis of music. Without rhythm, there would be no music. Rhythm can exist without melody, but melody cannot exist without rhythm. Orff believed that rhythm was independent of melody and could exist alone and produce the power of music. Melody needs to rely on rhythm to show a complete musical form.
