Departments of the Sibelius Academy

The Junior College was established in 1884 for school-age youth with musical talent. They can study musical instruments, orchestral music, chamber music, music theory, jazz, folk music and composition. Since students come from all over Finland, classes are mostly held on weekends.

International Important Information

Sibelius Academy welcomes all students who pass the entrance examination and exchange students to study in Helsinki. When planning your studies please note that the official languages ??at Sibelius Academy are Finnish and Swedish, only the Arts Management courses are in English. Before entering Finland, please make the following necessary preparations to ensure a pleasant life and study in Finland. Visa permits and work permits

Before you arrive in Finland, it is important to check your visa, residence permit and work permit at the embassy of your country. When you apply for a visa or residence permit, you must have a health insurance policy. Remember that it is your responsibility to obtain all necessary documents, and it is recommended that you apply in advance, as obtaining a permit can often take anywhere from one to several months or even half a year.

Living expenses

Higher education in Finland is free and does not require tuition fees, but students are obliged to pay membership fees to the student union. The academic library is free, and most public libraries in Finland do not require payment. In addition to paying student union dues, international students in Finland also need to pay for living expenses such as food, clothing, housing and transportation. The average monthly living expenses for a student is FIM 3,000–4,000, and 1 EUR = FIM 5.94.

However, health care and student meals can be funded by the Finnish government. Once admitted to an institution of higher learning, Finnish students are eligible for government loans and grants. International students are eligible for state scholarships and bank loans as long as they have lived in Finland for more than two years and not for the sole purpose of studying, and their residence can be permanent.
