A native of Meihekou City, Jilin Province. At the age of 10, he studied with the famous erhu performer Professor Yu Hongmei until now. In 2001, he was admitted to the Primary School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music with excellent results. In 2009, he won the Special Professional Excellence Award and was recommended to the Department of Folk Music of the Central Conservatory of Music for his undergraduate degree. Obtained an outstanding bachelor's degree and was recommended to the Central Conservatory of Music Department of Folk Music for postgraduate study in Erhu performance. While in school, he won many scholarships and professional excellence awards. He served as the concertmaster of the Youth National Symphony Orchestra. He performed at the National Center for the Performing Arts and various places many times and participated in live recordings and performances in programs such as CCTV's "Fenghua Chinese Music". At the age of 6, he learned Erhu from teacher Zhang Wanren. He received careful guidance from many experts such as Liu Zaisheng, Xu Daode, Zhou Wei, and Deng Jiandong. He graduated early in July 2015 and stayed at the school to teach.

Served as a soloist on CCTV, the National Center for the Performing Arts and other concert halls many times; was invited to participate in the CCTV New Year Concert, "Xuzhou Erhu Festival", the 30th Anniversary Concert of the Chinese Erhu Association, and the Beijing Huqin Festival , Taipei Chinese Music Festival and other performances. He has collaborated with China Philharmonic Orchestra, Taipei Chinese Orchestra and China Youth National Orchestra many times. He has participated in many concerts by Yu Hongmei teachers and students, and participated in many domestic and European tours.

At the age of 19, he released his solo Erhu album - "Through Time and Space - "Erhu Angel" Yan Guowei" and successfully held many solo concerts.
