Dai Ya was born in Dongyang, Zhejiang Province in 1964. He started learning flute at the age of 7 and studied with flute master Mr. Zhao Songting from the age of nine. In 1977, he was admitted to Zhejiang Art School. In 1981, he won first place in the "West Lake Spring" flute competition in Hangzhou. In 1982, he was assigned to the Hangzhou Song and Dance Troupe as a soloist. In 1986, he was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music and studied under the famous flute player Zeng Yongqing and Mr. Liu Guanyue. After graduating in 1990, he stayed at the school to teach. In 1998, he was recommended to study in the "Outstanding Actors of the Ministry of Culture" graduate class and graduated in 2000. He has been rated as an outstanding young teacher in Beijing; won the title of "Three Educators"; won the Outstanding Contribution Award for Young Teachers of the Central Conservatory of Music; in 2005, won the key scientific research project of the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Plan" of the Ministry of Education of China; in 2007 Invited to serve as a member of the Hong Kong Buddhist Cultural Industry-Buddhist Music Committee (Buddhist Musical Instruments Committee Group).

He has been invited by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, Gothenburg Academy of Music, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Macau Academy for Performing Arts, Singapore Arts Council and domestic institutions to hold master classes, performances and other activities. He has compiled "Central Conservatory of Music Dizi Grade Examination Textbooks" (domestic and overseas editions), "Chinese Musicians Association Dizi Grade Examination Textbooks", "Dizi Music Expo", and is the author of "Appreciation of 357", "The Charm of Erfan", " "Analysis of the Music of the Happy Shepherd Boy" and other papers.

Mr. Zhao Songting had the idea of ??developing the flute into a porous form during his lifetime. Following his mentor’s legacy, Dai Ya worked closely with composers and after nearly twenty years of research and repeated practice, he developed The improved eight-hole flute was boldly used in the performance, expanding the scale and making it more perfect, thus opening up new areas for the flute to better adapt to the various needs of soloists, concertos and composers in the new era. In 2000, he wrote "Practice and Thoughts on the Cooperation between Chinese Bamboo Flute and Western Orchestra", thinking about the development prospects of the eight-hole flute from a theoretical perspective. In 2008, he completed the new project "Eight-hole Flute - New Improved Bamboo Flute Application Tutorial", which made the training and performance of the eight-hole flute a complete standardized system and contributed to the development of the flute.
