The Egmont Overture is written in the form of a sonata, with a distinctive theme, and is a typical title piece of music. According to the plot and content of the music, the overture is divided into three parts: "The suffering of the Dutch people under the oppression of Spanish colonial rule", "The fierce struggle of the Dutch people against Spanish tyranny" and "The victory scene of the Dutch people".
After the entire band played long chords in the first part, the string section played several extremely heavy notes in the bass area, as if to tell the story of the suffering of the Dutch people under heavy pressure. This part gives people an extremely depressing feeling.
A slightly brisk melody in the second part temporarily relieved the depressing atmosphere, as if Egmont called on the people to unite and fight for freedom through struggle; but the environment is harsh and the struggle is hard. , Egmont rose up, and the revolutionary force continued to grow.
Part Three After a tenacious struggle, Egmont unfortunately died. However, the revolutionary struggle of the Dutch people did not end because of this. Instead, it became larger in scale and more magnificent, and finally led to victory step by step. The indomitable heroic spirit in the theme is exactly the embodiment of the same theme in many of Beethoven's works. The Dutch people reveled in the victory, and the name and glorious image of the hero Egmont will remain in the hearts of the people forever.
The Egmont Overture gives people a strong infection with its heroic conception and strict and perfect form. It is one of the most accessible and popular symphonic works and is often performed in concerts as a stand-alone symphony.
