Zhang Changcheng, who studied banhu from the famous pianist Jing Shengyan at the age of 6, started his career at the age of 12, and became a formal pianist in Xiaozhong Opera School of Shaanxi Province.
On October 1st, 1949, at the celebration party of founding ceremony in the auditorium of Northwest Military and Political University, Wangqu Town, the southern suburb of Xi 'an, Banhu's solo form was first created with his own arrangement of Embroidered Pocket, Muhu Ensemble and Northeast Yangko Dance.
In the early 195s, a long-term musical instrument reform began, and the tenor banhu was shaped. In 1955, he co-authored and published the first teaching book "Banhu Playing Method" in China.
from 1956 to before the cultural revolution, he visited and performed in 26 countries including Asia, Africa and Europe with the national art delegation, making great contributions to the literary and artistic work of the army and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
He is the main vocalist of The Red Lantern, The Tiger Mountain and The Orphan of Zhao. More than ten Banhu songs were recorded by Chinese record companies in the 195s and 196s.
He trained a large number of professional and amateur Banhu talents inside and outside the military, including Yuan Ye, Wu Xingshui, Zhao Shunxin, Zhang Zengliang, Chen Shulin, Ji Zhe, Tian Jianhua, Andy, Zhang Xinhuai, Zhang Qigan, Xin Wang and other students.
He participated in the second, third, fourth and fifth literary performances of the whole army and won prizes. He attended the fourth and fifth National Literary Congress and was the winner of the Medal of Liberation. He was received and cared for by the leaders of the older generation of countries such as Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, Luo Ruiqing and Xiao Hua.
