Composer. A native of Panyu, Guangdong. After 1973, he served as a band member of the Beijing Opera Troupe and a composer of the Central Opera House. Graduated from the Graduate School of the Toronto Conservatory of Music in Canada in 1983. In the same year, he was awarded the title of Composition Fellow of Trinity College of Music in London, UK. In 1986, he received a master's degree in music from the Yale School of Music in the United States and received the Yale School of Music's Outstanding Contribution to Music Award. His works include the large-scale opera "The Flower Goddess", the music of the ballet "Dunhuang Dream", the symphony "Saibei Suite", "Chinese Rhapsody", etc.
