At the end of 1927, Liu Changchun entered the Physical Education Department of Northeastern University and graduated in 1932. His basketball talent made him the first Chinese athlete to officially participate in the Olympic Games.

In order to save shoes, Liu Changchun runs barefoot every day when he goes to school. When he was in elementary school, he broke Dalian's primary school sprint record with a time of 11.8 seconds for 100 meters and 59 seconds for 400 meters.

In 1923, Liu Changchun participated in the "Kandong Continent Land Sports Conference" organized by the Japanese ruling authorities. At the age of 14, he won the 100 meters and 400 meters with results of 11.8 seconds and 59 seconds respectively. Racing champion. In 1927, Liu Changchun's 100-meter time had improved to 11 seconds, and he showed outstanding performance at the spring sports meeting hosted by the "China Youth Association". Liu Changchun dropped out of school due to family difficulties and worked as an apprentice in the Dalian Glass Products Factory.
