Dongjing music is a very ancient traditional instrumental music, which originated in Sichuan Province in the Song Dynasty. It is now popular in Sichuan Province, Han areas of Yunnan, and Naxi and Yi areas such as Lijiang and Chuxiong.

According to ancient practice, the formal performance of Dongjing music must first be led by a "leading singer". According to different "subjects" and different scriptures, "starting" "Different melodies, bands, and harmonies keep up.
For example: offering sacrifices to the sacred seat, asking for ten offerings, paying respect, speaking, comforting, confessing, etc. Singing sutras is the main content of the Dong Sutra. It is sung one after another with lead and harmony. Sometimes only wooden fish are used to beat the verses, and sometimes music accompaniment is required. Dongjing groups in various places have their own set of rules for composing music.
