The Fireworks Festival originated in Cannes, France in 196. Since 1985, it has gained special development due to the Montreal International Fireworks Festival in Canada. Several international fireworks festivals have been formed in Canada, South Africa and Spain.

It is the first country and city in the world to hold the Fireworks Festival, and it is also the largest international music fireworks show competition with influence and scale in the world. It has been held for 24 consecutive years. Founded in 1985 as a traditional fireworks show, it began to become a musical fireworks show in 1987. It is held every year from June to August in a 1,-hectare lake in a paradise around Montreal. There are 1 special performances every session, and every Wednesday or Sunday is a fixed discharge day, and famous fireworks companies from all over the world are invited to perform. China's musical fireworks started in Shanghai. Since 2, the 11th "Shanghai International Musical Fireworks Festival" has been successfully held in Century Park, Pudong, Shanghai, creating a precedent for holding international musical fireworks in Asia.

Following the Shanghai International Music Fireworks Festival, China's coastal and mainland tourist cities have started music fireworks festivals. Among them, the famous ones are Hangzhou West Expo International Fireworks Conference, China (Liuyang) International Fireworks Competition, Changsha Orange Island International Music Fireworks Competition and China (Sanya) International Music and Art Fireworks Competition.
