April 16, 2000
The website was established and ftp service started. The server is a PC purchased at my own expense in the autumn of 1999: Celeron 366, 196M memory, Chengqi 6ASA motherboard (via692), 10M NE2000 network card (ISA), 17G hard drive (Seagate, 5400/512K). The hard disk is divided into 4G for music area. The software system is win98 serv-u.
In the early days of building the website, some users were unable to log in using IE, or were unable to open directories and download files. Later, I accidentally discovered that if I add an English letter before the Chinese name of the file, the problems will be much less. Due to the limitations of win98, the maximum output speed of ftp can only reach about 200kB/s, and the CPU usage is very high at this time, making it difficult to do anything else.
At first, the source of the songs was mainly mp3 discs. Every now and then, I would go to the small baskets of various stall owners to find songs. After June 2000, the National Polytechnic University waived the traffic fee for the education network and began to collect a large amount of information from the Internet. The number of de-education sessions gradually decreased. In addition, there are a small number of songs that are not available online at the moment, and they come from CDs, VCDs, and even tapes and radios. As the number of songs increased, the initial 4G music area became increasingly stretched. Later, pqmagic was used to extract data from other partitions several times, and the music area was expanded to 6G, 8G, and 10G.
August 9, 2000
With the increase in the number of visitors, the win98 serv-u server has become increasingly overwhelmed. At Sun's suggestion, we abandoned serv-u and switched to G6 for ftp service. The compatibility of client access tools has been somewhat improved, but the output speed is still limited to about 200kB/s, and the server is still struggling.
August 17, 2000
The number of songs reached more than 2,000, the 10G music area was almost full, and there was not much to squeeze out of other partitions. So I purchased a 30G piece (Maxtor, 5400/DMA66/512k, 1200¥) and used it all as the ftp music area. The original 17G Seagate was only used to boot the system and store personal data.
August 21, 2000
I became increasingly unbearable with the heavy load of the ftp service under win98. Instigated by Sun, I deleted win98 and installed win2k prof. Continue to use G6 as ftp service software, and the maximum output speed suddenly increases to about 800kB/s.
September 2, 2000
Bad sectors were detected on the 30G hard drive. I went to a computer company for testing and they agreed to replace the hard drive. Naturally, the original songs have to be moved to the new hard drive. The company's guy tried his best and used ghost, but made a mistake and reversed the target disk and source disk, washing out the 5G songs. It took many days to restore the songs.
October 18, 2000
Netizens uploaded more and more songs, approaching 7,000, and the 30G in the music area was almost full again. Considering that if another hard disk is added, the songs can only be stored in multiple partitions. If the original ftp method is continued, whether it is G6 or serv-u, it will be very inconvenient to manage and the desired effect cannot be achieved. I asked G6 company personnel via email about related technical issues, and the reply was that they could not be solved yet.
Having no choice but to consider switching to http-based web method. It took nearly a week to create the HTML web page and change the directory file names to pinyin abbreviations and numbers to completely eliminate the compatibility issues caused by Chinese links.
October 22, 2000
Gaya Music Station launched http service. Initially, IIS that came with win2k prof was used, but it was soon discovered that the limit on the number of connections prevented most users from logging in. So it was converted to win2k server that day, eliminating the limit on the number of visitors. At the same time, it also solves the management problem of multiple hard disk partitions and prepares for adding hard disks.
October 26, 2000
Counter added.
I went to the essence area of ??the Shuimu WWW version and found an asp counter description. I copied the source code back, copied it, modified and debugged it, and installed it on the home page.
November 14, 2000
The original hard drive is full again. Add another 40G (Maxtor, 5400/DMA100/2M, 1450¥). Together with the original 30G, the music area space reaches 70G.
November 20, 2000
After http was opened, many users used multi-threaded downloads, which overwhelmed the PC server and threatened the hard disk. For this reason, the access IP is restricted and is only accessible to users in the first and second districts of the University of Technology. Song downloading still uses ftp method, and each IP allows up to 3 ftp connections. On January 2, 2001

November 17, 2001
The number of songs is gradually approaching 16,000, totaling 65G, and the original hard disk space is almost full again. I purchased another 80G unit (Seagate, 7200/DMA100/2M, 1480¥). The earliest Seagate 17G was retired and purchased by beauty at a sponsorship price. After expansion, the total space of the server music area reaches 130G.
November 24, 2001
The server CPU was replaced from AMD Duron 650MHz to Thunderbird 900MHz.
November 29, 2001
When the output speed of the NE2000 ISA network card is nearly 1MB/s, the CPU is basically at full load, which greatly affects the webmaster's other daily work. So I switched to the PCI 100M realtk8139 (thanks to wugang for helping with the binding), which reduced the CPU burden. However, due to the total hub export limit of the laboratory, the peak value is still maintained at around 1MB/s.
December 24, 2001

July 26, 2002

October 25, 2002
The application for off-campus access to the server was processed. Except for apartment broadband users who are still unable to access Gaya due to telecommunications restrictions, other users can basically access it. access. However, due to the excessive network fees caused by the inflow of bytes accessed by non-free IP users, access by all non-free IP users had to be prohibited. Only some free IP users are allowed. Despite this, the traffic charges caused by scanning from foreign IPs are still considerable and have become a major concern. January 8, 2003

So I plan to change the database to sqlserver. June 28, 2003
Because my father was hospitalized, the webmaster rushed back to his hometown to stay with him. The server was entrusted to the care of a friend. Soon after, due to network arrears, access outside the school was inaccessible. For various reasons, on-campus users are often unable to access it. The friend who helps with the care only tries to help restart the server once or twice a day. If it is ineffective in solving the problem, the friend generally can't do anything (after all, he is not as familiar with the software and hardware configuration of the server as gaea). The webmaster who is far away in his hometown is helpless during this period, and he is bitter... While taking care of his father at home, he is planning to revise the Gaya interface.

January 26, 2005
After the webmaster went home for the holidays, the server power supply was damaged. No one could troubleshoot the problem during the holiday, and the website's services were interrupted. It was not until the webmaster returned to school on February 14 that he replaced the power supply for the server (¥480), and the service was restored and campus users could access it. Users outside the school were still unable to access it. Later I learned that it was because the school network outlet was tight and Gaya occupied too much out-of-school bandwidth, so I had to close the Gaya off-campus outlet.

Because the school official department was worried about being affected by copyright issues, Gaya's server could no longer be stored in the computer room of the school network center. So I moved back to the laboratory where the webmaster was located. Because the new IP used by the server is the lab's campus IP, it can only be accessed by campus network users.
