Besides the beautiful writing and beautiful colors, what else attracts you to "Happy Together"?

If the characteristics of literary language are reflected in words, and the characteristics of dance language are reflected in body shape, then the characteristics of film and television language are reflected in the montage of images, sounds and the integration of sound and picture. Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai's 1997 work "Happy Together" is a representative example of the ultimate expression of film language. This film, which once amazed the world at the Cannes Film Festival in France, can be said to have achieved a natural harmony in narrative, editing, light and shadow, and music, and has an extremely unified and long-lasting charm. The story of the film takes place in Buenos Aires, South America, which is the other side of the world from Hong Kong. It tells the story of a gay couple, Lai Yiu Fai and Ho Po Wing, who separated and reunited in a foreign country. Some people always say that Wong Kar-wai's works tell a story from beginning to end, about rejection and escape, about freedom and search, and "Happy Together" is no exception. "If you don't want to be rejected by others, you must reject others first." In "Ashes of Time", also written by Wong Kar-wai, Ouyang Feng, also played by Leslie Cheung, said this. In "Happy Together", Ho Po-wing played by Leslie Cheung Incarnate into a beautiful shadow that lacks a sense of belonging, repeating the story of rejection and search. From the perspective of the characters themselves, they are drifting, or even marginalized. From Hong Kong to South America, they have a strong sense of rootlessness and alienation. Or in "Ashes of Time", there is a dialogue like this :

"What will be behind the desert?"

"It's not another desert"

Even though South America is already the end of the world, it is the hardest to jump. What is taken off is the shackles of the soul. Therefore, Wong Kar-wai is desperate, Li Yaohui is desperate, and Ho Baorong will not despair because he has not found his heart.

Judging from the tone of the picture, the film can be divided into three parts. In the first 24 minutes, the two broke up irritably. Li Yaohui went to the bar to make money as a waiter, while He Baorong wandered around. The picture was processed in black and white. After 24 minutes, the two reunited, and the scene now had color, just like Li Yaohui's mood. The main colors were yellow, orange, and green, warm and lazy. The two separated again, and the film entered the third part, with noisy voices. At that time, the picture was still dominated by orange, but when Li Yaohui appeared alone in the camera, blue began to exaggerate loneliness. The transition of these colors is very consistent with people's understanding of color in aesthetic experience. It can be said that Wong Kar-wai's use of color is always direct and full of emotion.
