Zhou Shuan (1894- 1974) is a pioneer of modern music in China, the first professional vocal educator, the first female chorus conductor and the first female composer in modern China.
1In May, 894, Zhou Shuan was born in Gulangyu, a scholarly family combining Chinese and Western cultures. His father Zhou Zhide is a Christian priest, and his mother Xie is an overseas Chinese returning from the South Ocean. Zhou Shuan showed her musical talent in her childhood. At that time, she had no formal music education, and she could only touch a little music. Her second sister played the piano in the church, so she learned to recognize the staff and learn to play the piano and sing.
