Introduction to Ding Dong

Dingdong is a unique percussion musical instrument of the Li ethnic group, named after the sound produced by the instrument. Among the Li people, both men and women, old and young, love to play dingdong and regard it as their favorite musical instrument. They have also compiled many dingdong folk songs, and they play and sing during every New Year, festival or gathering to celebrate. There is a song played by dingdong that goes like this: "The rice in the mountain fence is soft and fragrant. In the past, it was all tasted by the landlords. The poor farmers guarded the mountain fence late at night and played dingdong to drive away the wild boars. Today the Li people are liberated, and everyone in the mountain fence tastes the dingdong rice." The bangs get louder and louder, expressing their gratitude to the Communist Party." To this day, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, in the Wuzhi Mountain area of ??Hainan Island, the Li people still play songs with ding dongs to celebrate the harvest under the bright moon. Dingdong can be played solo, in ensemble or as an accompaniment to singing and dancing. The music includes "Dingdong Dance" and so on.
