Yes. Beijing Normal University has a pop singing major. The Music Department of the School of Art and Media of Beijing Normal University has a history of nearly a hundred years. Its predecessor can be traced back to the music workshop established in 1915 and the first music and physical education major in the history of modern Chinese music added by the National Beijing Women’s Higher Normal School. In the 1920s, Xiao Youmei, Yang Zhongzi, Zhao Yuanren, Liu Tianhua, Li Baochen, etc. taught here; after the 1930s, Lao Zhicheng, Jiang Wenye, Shen Xiang, He Luting, Hong Shen, Qian Renkang, Zhang Xiaohu, Jiang Fengzhi, Zhang Hong Shima taught here successively, and foreign teachers Hervat (Russia), Kupke (Germany), Fargas (Hungary), and Naoji Inoue (Japan) were employed here. In 1983, Mr. Zhang Xiaohu presided over the reconstruction of the music education major of the Department of Art Education. Since then, music education has gradually grown, forming a mature pattern today in which music professional theory and performance practice are combined, and comprehensive music education and pedagogy theory are developed in parallel.
