Hisaishi Joe started learning to play the violin at the Suzuki Town One violin classroom when he was five years old. The main form of his original music was small music, and his early works were not very popular. Hisaishi Joe studied composition at the National Conservatory of Music in Japan in his early years, so Hisaishi Joe has profound academic training. In 1998, Joe Hisaishi was invited to serve as the music production director for the Winter Paralympics in Nagano, Japan. Such an important task can be said to be a great affirmation of his status as a master in the music industry.

Hisaishi Joe's musical concepts were influenced by Philips Glass, Steve Reich, Stockhausen, and John Cage. , as well as the influence of modern Japanese composers Toru Takemitsu, Akira Mizen and others. In 1983, Joe Hisaishi met Hayao Miyazaki through someone's introduction. At this time, Miyazaki was working on the creation of "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind". After listening to the impressionistic music of Nausica? of the Valley of the Wind composed by Hisaishi Joe, Miyazaki was deeply moved. After the film was released, Miyazaki's vision was further confirmed. Hisaishi Joe's score for the film deeply moved countless audiences and critics.
