Southern College of Sun Yat-sen University has a music major.

The Music Department of Sun Yat-sen University Southern College was established in 2012. It currently has musicology majors (music education, musicology theory and application), and recruits students nationwide. Other related majors will be opened in the future.

The curriculum focuses on a teaching method that combines theory and practice. The courses cover "Basic Courses in Public Affairs", "Technical and Non-technical Theory Courses in Musicology", "Basic Application Courses in Music" and "Music Basics Courses". Four curriculum areas including "Education Major Theory and Application Course" are designed to cultivate compound practical application talents in music majors.

The Department of Music currently has 19 full-time teachers and 7 part-time teachers with postdoctoral, doctorate and master's degrees. They graduated from the University of North Texas, the University of Maryland, the University of Miami, and Freiburg, Germany.
