Guo Jingming participated in the third and fourth "New Concept Composition Competition" in 2001 and 2002, and won the first prize again, and began to gradually become a novel for young readers. known. Since then, some of the works he wrote for "Sprout" magazine have been welcomed by readers. In October 2002, the fantasy novel "Fantasy City" began to be serialized in "Sprout" magazine. This work received strong responses from many readers. In 2003, the single volume of "Fantasy City" was published by Chunfeng Literature and Art Publishing House and achieved great market success. However, after the book was released, Beijing female writer Zhuang Yu said that this book has many similarities with the storyline, language and character relationships in the novel "In and Out of the Circle" that she had serialized online. In 2004, she filed a lawsuit against Guo Jingming with the Beijing Intermediate People's Court. In December 2004, the first instance verdict found Guo Jingming guilty of plagiarism, and sentenced Guo Jingming and the book's publisher, Chunfeng Literature and Art Publishing House, to stop the publication of "How Many Flowers Fall in Dreams" and compensate Zhuang Yu for economic losses of 200,000 yuan. He apologized to Zhuang Yu. After the verdict was disclosed by the media, it attracted widespread attention to Guo Jingming and reflection on the group of writers born in the 1980s. However, Guo Jingming was unwilling to express his opinion in front of the media on this matter. When Guo Jingming was participating in the recording of the "Cultural Interview" program on China Central Television's Variety Channel, after the host asked this question several times but refused to answer, he temporarily left the studio and returned to the scene a few minutes later. This incident caused people to discuss Guo Jingming on the Internet.

In 2004, Guo Jingming and his friends formed the "Island Studio" in Shanghai and planned and published the "Island" series of books. This is a regularly published magazine-like series of books. Guo Jingming served as the "supervisor" (later renamed "editor-in-chief"), including writing, photography and illustration models for some content.

In 2005, his third novel "1994-2004 Summer Solstice Has Not Arrive" was published. Part of this book was serialized in the "Island" series. In the same year, the traditional Chinese version of "How Many Flowers Fall in Dreams" was published in Taiwan by Yuchen Books.
