1. Martin Luther King Day
On Monday, January 2th, 1986, people all over the country were celebrating the first official Martin Luther King Day, which was the only federal holiday to commemorate African-Americans. Martin Luther King regarded "non-violence" and "direct action" as one of the most prominent advocates of social change methods. Martin Luther King, seeking equality for blacks, launched the civil rights movement in the United States with outstanding achievements and is famous all over the world.
2. President's Day
One of the 1 legal holidays in the United States, which is scheduled on the third Monday of February every year, enjoys the same status as Memorial Day and Thanksgiving Day. Every year on this day, Americans will relive history and remember the great president who is respected in people's hearts in some special ways. Schools and parents will also educate their children in patriotism on this day to let them know and be familiar with American history.
3. Memorial Day
is a holiday to be commemorated in most states in the United States. It was originally on May 3th. After 1971, in order to ensure that all federal employees can enjoy this rest day, many states changed it to the last Monday in May.
On Memorial Day, American servicemen and veterans line up in a long line to go to the cemetery, firing guns to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers, and blowing the lights out to let the fallen soldiers rest in peace.
4. American Independence Day
is one of the major legal holidays in the United States, and the date is July 4th every year to commemorate the formal adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia on July 4th, 1776.
The early celebrations of Independence Day were mainly parades and speeches, with a certain religious color. Later, outdoor activities and sports competitions were added. Setting off firecrackers and fireworks was once very popular, but it was cancelled after the 2th century to prevent danger.
5. Columbus Day
Also known as Columbia Day, it is a festival held to commemorate Columbus's first landing on the American continent in 1492, and the time is October 12th or the second Monday in October.
