Everyone knows that women at the bottom of society who do not obey women are called "broken shoes". But, do you know why it’s called that? There are two opinions.
One is that prostitutes were the most humble profession in the old society, and most of those engaged in this profession were the daughters of poor families who could not survive. If a person is poor, of course his clothes will not be well-dressed, they must be in rags. But since you are engaged in this kind of profession, of course you don't want to be too slovenly and poor, and you must dress as "splendid" as possible. Otherwise, you may not be able to survive without any business. In ancient times, the folk customs were simple and you could borrow clothes, but there was also the tradition and rule of "borrowing clothes but not shoes". Therefore, although the clothes on top of these poorest prostitutes may still be passable, the shoes on their feet are very likely to be in tatters. Therefore, over time, the word "broken shoes" has been used to refer to and call this special group of people.
Another theory is that in ancient times, most of the brothels in the eight alleys in Beijing had an embroidered shoe hanging in front of them. This is just like the wine flags of hotels and store signs, as well as current trademarks and advertisements, which are meant to attract business. The shoe may have been new at first, but over time, exposed to wind, rain, and sun, it soon became old and worn out, and the madam was too lazy to replace it. Therefore, people call the women who work in this profession "broken shoes".
The above two statements are very vivid. But I think it's all a derogatory term for the lower class brothels or the lowest level women who work in this profession. Because we have never heard of people like Su Xiaoxiao, Li Xiangjun, Dong Xiaowan, Liu Rushi, and Xiao Fengxian being called "broken shoes". The nature of the profession is the same, why are the names different? Maybe this is because of the high level.
In fact, whether in history or in today's society, there is no shortage of this phenomenon - people and things are not measured with the same ruler. There have been rumors circulating on the Internet that "common people harassing women are called hooligans, celebrities harassing women are called romantics", "unrealized goals of celebrities are called long-cherished wishes, and ordinary people's unfulfilled goals are called ambitions" and so on.
The above-mentioned inequalities exist objectively, and they cannot be transferred or changed by human will, and will exist for a long time. Since there is inequality, there must be a reason for inequality, which includes its content and form, that is, whether there is anything worthy of praise, that is, whether it has positive energy. The form is its level. The high-end brothels are magnificent, and the employees are proficient in music, chess, calligraphy, painting, poetry, wine and tea, and can afford to put them down. Of course, a lot of effort was put into it in the early stage and they were invested. The content is her vision, her qualities, her character, her experiences, and her achievements. Without Liu Rushi, Qian Qianyi's later years would be in a mess, and his reputation throughout his life would be greatly eroded; Xiaofengxian's rescue of Cai E was a great contribution to the Republic of China. As for some other people, even if they cannot be said to have any achievements, their talents are first-rate. They are connected with the names of famous people and even have works handed down from generation to generation. Therefore, I think that recognizing this inequality but being able to accept it is a relatively correct attitude.
By analogy, many inequalities in society should be viewed in this way.
