Translation
The autumn wind is clear and the autumn moon is clear.
The leaves in the wind gather and disperse, and Western jackdaw has already lived, but she is awakened by the bright moon.
My friends are looking forward to meeting each other, but I don't know when, at this time, and on such a night, it's hard to miss them.
If you walk into the door of lovesickness, you will know the suffering of lovesickness.
You will remember lovesickness forever, but there is no end to short-lived lovesickness.
If you had known that lovesickness is so entangled in your heart, you might as well not have met each other in the first place.
Extended information
1. Appreciation
This poem is a typical work of sorrowful autumn. It was written on a moonlit night in late autumn. The poet looked at the bright moon hanging high in the sky and Western jackdaw, who was perched on a tree with fallen leaves. He couldn't help but feel dejected, and once dribs and drabs were replayed in his mind.
This situation makes the poet sad and helpless. This is inseparable from the bottom of my heart, and that emotion and yearning make the poet regret his acquaintance. In the poem, autumn wind, autumn moon, fallen leaves and Western jackdaw set off a sad atmosphere, and the poet's fantastic imagination and perfect portrayal of his own heart make the whole poem look sad and moving.
This poem is also entitled "Three Five Seven Words", which contains a clear poetic form connotation. However, Li Bai's poem can't be regarded as a creative work, because in the early Tang Dynasty, Yi Jing, a monk, wrote a poem "In the Western Country, I was pregnant with the king and gave up the city", which was named "13579 words" because of its stylistic characteristics.
Li Bai's poem is only a variation of 13579 words, which omits the first "one word" and the last "nine words", that is, "357words". Wang Kunwu demonstrated that Yijing's poems were "works of singing harmony" in "The Art of Liquor Order in Tang Dynasty".
Li Bai's poem may also be a "chorus poem" between him and other poets. "Three-five-seven words" is a restriction on remuneration and poetry format, which is a "general topic", and people can decide a corresponding poem topic according to what they have written when they are writing.
2. The author's profile
Li Bai (71 ~ 762), whose name is Taibai, was named Qinglian Jushi. He is the most unique and greatest romantic poet after Qu Yuan. He has the reputation of "Poet Fairy" and is also called "Li Du" with Du Fu.
His poems are mainly lyrical, showing the arrogant spirit of despising powerful people, expressing sympathy for people's sufferings, and being good at depicting natural scenery and expressing love for the mountains and rivers of the motherland. The poetic style is magnificent and bold, the imagination is rich, the language flows naturally, and the melody is harmonious and changeable, which constitutes its unique magnificent and gorgeous color and reaches the peak of the poetic art in the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
There are more than a thousand surviving poems, including 3 volumes of Li Taibai Collection.
