The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organization announced by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in Shanghai, China on June 65, 2006.
Formerly known as the "Shanghai Five" meeting mechanism. On July 6, 2005, the 15th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of SCO member states was held in Ufa, Russia. The Ufa Summit adopted a resolution on starting the process of accepting India and Pakistan to join the SCO, and the SCO expansion door was officially opened.
