What components does the historical trend control of InTouch require the system to have?
InTouch provides two trend display objects: Real-time and History. You can configure two trend objects to display graphical representations of multiple tagnames at a specific time. Real-time trends can be plotted with up to four pens (data values), while historical trends can be plotted with up to eight pens. Both of these trends were created using special tools in WindowMaker. InTouch gives you complete control over the configuration of trends. For example, you can specify time span, value range, grid resolution, time label position, value label position, number of pens, and color attributes.

First, real-time trends

Real-time trends are dynamic. They are constantly updated at runtime.

They can draw changes of up to four local tagnames or expressions when changes occur. Create real-time trends

1. Select the real-time trend tool in the drawing toolbar.

2. Click in the window, and then drag the mouse diagonally as needed.

Draw a rectangular box for the trend size. (You can choose to draw a trend chart of any size, and there is no limit to the number of trend charts that can be placed on the screen).

3. Let go of the mouse. At this point, the real-time trend object appears in the window: at runtime, data will be written to the trend chart from right to left.

4. Double-click the trend to open its configuration dialog box. Trend objects are similar to any other objects drawn in WindowMaker. It can be moved by dragging with the mouse or resized by grasping the "handle" of the object. In this window, you can place multiple trend charts.

Configure real-time trends

1. Double click the trend; Or select the trend, and then on the special menu, click the animation link. The Real-time Trend Configuration dialog box appears.

2. In the time span box, enter the length of time (x axis) to be displayed horizontally on the trend chart, and then select the time increment option for the length of time.

3. In the sampling interval box, enter the frequency of trend expression assignment and chart update, and then select the time increment option related to this value.

4. In the color group, click the chart color box to open the InTouch palette. Click the color in the palette that you want to use as the trend background.

5. In the color group, click the border color box to open the InTouch palette. Click the color you want to use as the trend border in the palette.

6. In the "Time Scale" grouping box, in the "Number of major time scales", enter the number of major time scales required by the trend, and then select the color used for the tick marks.

7. In the Time Scale group, in the Minor/Major Scale box, enter the number of minor scales that can be seen in each major scale, and then select the color used for scale marks.

8. If you want to display the time label at the top of the trend, select the top label in the time scale group.

9. If you want to display the time label at the bottom of the trend, select the bottom label in the time scale group. Trends can have top and bottom labels or no labels.

10. If you want to use timestamps, please enter the number of timestamps for each main timescale line of the trend in the main timescale/timestamp box of the timescale group.

1 1. In the Timescale group, select the color used for the main timescale line.

12. The settings in the value scale group are the same as those in the time scale group, except that the minor scale and major scale of the value will set the vertical value (y axis) range of the trend. The range uses "engineering units", and all tags to be trended have the same tag name.

13. In the expression box, enter the local tag name or expression to plot the trend with each pen. 14. Click the color box and select the color of each pen used to draw each tagname in the trend.

15. In the Width box, enter a pixel width value for each pen. Selecting a pen pixel width value greater than 1 will significantly reduce the performance of updating and printing trends.

16. Click Select Display Font to access the Font dialog box and select the font, style and size to use when printing trends.

17. If you want the trend to be updated only when it is displayed in the active window, select Update only when the trend is in memory.

18. Click OK.

Second, historical trends.

Historical trends can provide you with a snapshot of historical time and date. They are not dynamic. Unlike real-time trends, historical trends are updated only when instructed, for example, by executing a QuickScript or by an operator (such as clicking a button). You can draw a historical trend of up to eight tagnames (pens) at a time, but there is no limit to the number of trends displayed. You have sufficient flexibility in designing the trend interface. You can create an "indicator" for the operator to "move" on the trend chart and access various data according to the current position of the indicator. For example, when the operator places the indicator in a trend area with visible data, the time and value of all data values at that location will be returned to you.

1. Select the historical trend tool in the drawing toolbar. The historical trend tool is used to draw historical trend objects.

2. Click in the window, then drag the mouse diagonally to draw a rectangular box according to the required trend.

3. Let go of the mouse. Historical trends appear in the window.

Configuration historical trend

1. Double click the trend; Or select the trend, and then on the special menu, click the animation link. The Historical Trend Configuration dialog box appears.

2. In the History Tag box, enter the tag name for the trend.

3. In the Initial Time Span box, enter the trend time length (x axis) to be displayed horizontally, and then select the time increment option for the time length.

4. Select the initial display mode for the trend.

5. In the color group, click the chart color box to open the InTouch palette. Click the color in the palette that you want to use as the trend background.

6. In the color group, click the border color box to open the InTouch palette. Click the color you want to use as the trend border in the palette. Repeat this process for all color options.

7. In the "Time Scale" grouping box, in the "Number of major time scales", enter the number of major time scales required by the trend, and then select the color used for the tick marks. The number of major time scales must be an even multiple of the number of minor/major scales.

8. In the Time Scale group, in the Minor/Major Scale box, enter the number of minor scales visible in each major scale, and then select the color to use for scale marks.

9. If you want to display the time label at the top of the trend, select the top label in the time scale group. 10. If you want to display the time label at the bottom of the trend, select the bottom label in the time scale group. Trends can have top and bottom labels or no labels.

1 1. If you want to use timestamps, please enter the number of timestamps for each main timescale line of the trend in the main timescale/timestamp box of the timescale group.

12. In the Timescale group, select the color used for the main timescale line.

13. The settings in the numerical range group are configured in the same way as those in the time range group. The minor and major numerical scales set the range of vertical coordinate values (Y axis) of the trend. The range uses "engineering units", and all tags to be trended have the same tag name.

14. In the tagname box, double-click to open the supplier list dialog box. Select the tagname provider to use for this pen. Click "OK". A browser appears, displaying the local or remote tagname of the provider. Double-click the tagname to select it. Repeat this process for tagnames or expressions that you want to trend with each pen.

15. Click the color box and select the color of each pen used to draw the trend.

16. In the Width box, enter a pixel width value for each pen.

17. Select Allow Runtime Changes if you want the operator to be able to change the configuration of the trend at runtime. These changes include changing the assignment, start date, time, etc.

18. Click Select Display Font to access the Font dialog box, and select the font, style and size to display the trend.

19. Click OK.
