1940, the college's predecessor "Shuangshipu Peili Technical School" in Fengxian County, Shaanxi Province began to build. 1942, Shuangshipu Peili Craft School in Fengxian County, Shaanxi Province was formally established and put into use, which was under the leadership of the former Northwest Office of China Industrial Cooperation Association. 1944, the college moved westward to Shandan County, Gansu Province, and was renamed "Shandan Peili Craft School".

195 1 was renamed as "Peili Industrial School of Northwest Petroleum Administration" and was placed under the leadership of Northwest Petroleum Administration as a secondary school. 1953 was placed under the leadership of Northwest Petroleum Drilling Bureau, and the college was moved to Qiujiawan, Shilidian, Anning District, Lanzhou City, and renamed as "Peili Petroleum Technician School". 1956, the Ministry of Petroleum decided to hand over the college to the preparatory office of Lanzhou Refinery for direct leadership, and the college was renamed as "Lanzhou Petroleum Technician College". 1957, the Ministry of Petroleum decided to merge Guangzhou Petroleum Machinery Installation Technical School into the school. 1958, changed to Gansu machinery manufacturing school with medium professional nature.

1960 Gansu machinery bureau decided to separate secondary education from secondary education, and moved to Lanzhou Electric Machinery Factory, No.66 Minle Road, Qilihe District, Lanzhou City to continue running the school. Approved by the relevant departments of the province and the provincial machinery bureau, the college was built in Cuijiadatan, Qilihe District, Lanzhou City. Due to the temporary difficult period of the national economy, 1960 was completely shut down in the second half of the year, and the land was handed over to Lanzhou Bureau of Landscape Architecture. 196 1, the first graduate of Gansu Machinery Manufacturing School graduated smoothly. 1962 The original post and telecommunications schools of machinery, coal, electric power, light industry, heavy industry and post and telecommunications were merged into Gansu Industrial School. 1964, with the approval of Gansu Provincial People's Committee, the main body of Gansu Industrial School was officially moved to Gansu University of Technology (No.287 Langongping, Qilihe District, Lanzhou City). 1965 With the consent of Gansu Provincial People's Committee and Lanzhou Municipal People's Committee, the College requisitioned the land in Gongjiawan District, Qilihe District, Lanzhou City as the construction land of the College.

From the end of 1966 to the beginning of 1967, the college moved to the new campus one after another and began a new stage of development. 1969 college cancelled the school-run factory and changed its name to Lanzhou No.1 Machine Tool Plant. 1974 after more than four years of "withdrawing the school to run the factory", the college resumed running and changed its name to Lanzhou Industrial School. 1985 Gansu Provincial People's Government replied that Lanzhou Technical School was transformed into Lanzhou Technical College and reported to the former State Education Commission for approval. 1989, approved by the former State Education Commission, was transformed into Lanzhou Institute of Technology, and 80 junior college students from two majors were enrolled in the same year.

1992 was identified by the provincial education commission as one of the pilot institutions for comprehensive reform, and was listed as one of the key development institutions at the provincial education work conference in 1993. 1993, the college was identified as an integrated enrollment pilot institution in Gansu province. Since 1994, the school has implemented "combined enrollment". In that year, 600 students were enrolled, and the number of students in school reached1more than 300, which was 6 times higher than 1989. Since 2003, the college has been responsible for the implementation of the "Gansu Province National Bilateral Agreement Project". In 2003, the college passed the evaluation of talent training level of higher vocational colleges by the Ministry of Education, and the evaluation conclusion was good, ranking 10 among 26 participating colleges in China. It is also one of the first universities in China to accept the evaluation of talent training level in higher vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education.
