How did Monroe die in the history of the Three Kingdoms?
In the official history, Monroe died at the age of 42.

After Monroe successfully won Jingzhou, Sun Quan declared Monroe the prefect of Nanjun County at the public security meeting, sealed Liling Hou, and gave 100 million yuan [28] and 500 Jin of gold. Lv Meng resigned because of his infirmity, but Sun Quan refused.

So he specially sent troops to preach and celebrate, and chose Monroe as the butler under General Hu Weiwei, as well as the ceremonial object of the prefect of Nanjun and Lujiang counties. After the seal, Lu Meng returned to the military camp, accompanied by military forces and horses, and spread military music along the way, which was extremely glorious.

Unfortunately, before he was officially knighted, Lumeng suddenly fell ill. Sun Quan was still in the public security department. He specially placed Lumeng in the inner temple, tried his best to treat him, and offered a reward of $1,000 to recruit people who could cure Lumeng's disease.

Sun Quan was very depressed. He wanted to observe Lv Meng's illness at any time, but he was afraid that it would interfere with his rest, so he opened a small hole in the wall of another room to observe Lv Meng. Whenever Sun Quan saw that Monroe could eat something, he was very happy and smiled. When Monroe's condition deteriorated, Sun Quan would be upset and insomnia. Once upon a time, Monroe's condition improved greatly, and Sun Quan even pardoned him and called ministers to celebrate.

However, not long after, Monroe's condition deteriorated. Sun Quan visited him personally and ordered the Taoist priest to pray for Monroe. On his deathbed, Lv Meng handed over the funeral affairs to Sun Quan, entrusted Zhu Ran and Lu Xun with the important task, and let him die in the inner hall. He is 42 years old.

Sun Quan was haggard with grief. Before Monroe died, he gave all the treasures he earned in his life to the government, and asked his family to repay them on the day of his death. The funeral should be simple. When Sun Quan heard about it, his grief was even worse.

Extended data:

In the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Lv Mengchu appeared in Chapter 38 "Sun Shi's Revenge in the Battle of the Yangtze River". Because Sun Quan recruited talents, he joined forces with Lu Xun, Xu Sheng and others, and died in Chapter 77 "Seeing Duke Guan of Yuquan Mountain". The image of Monroe in the novel is only slightly similar to the historical facts, but because of his respect for Guan Yu, romanticism obliterates some of Monroe's military talents.

Lv Meng served as a captain of Pingbei in the 38th time, introduced Gan Ning who came to vote for Sun Quan, attacked Jiangxia Huang Zu with Sun Quan, and personally beheaded the enemy striker Chen Jiu before the war. Later, Lv Meng also participated in Battle of Red Cliffs, belonging to the fourth army with Taishi Ci. He was also ordered to lead 3,000 troops to the Wulin to meet Gan Ning's troops, and then pursued Cao Cao, forcing him to stay in Zhang Liao to patrol.

When Zhou Yu attacked Coss and fought against Sun Quan in ruxu and Hefei, there was a plot in which Monroe offered her advice. However, there is no mention of his efforts in his youth and his study experience from martial arts to literature in the novel.

When he took over the positions of Zhou Yu and Lu Su, he began to make enemies with Shu and others. Later, Lv Meng planned to capture Jingzhou, and even boasted to Sun Quan that Haikou could capture Jingzhou, but he didn't have any good plans after seeing the beacon tower, so he could only pretend to be ill and avoid Sun Quan.

Lu Xun knew why Lv Meng pretended to be ill, so he went to Lv Meng and put forward a plan to cross the river in vain. Lv Meng agreed to his plan and rejoined the battle. The whole action was planned by Lu Xun, and Lu Meng was just an executor.

However, because he became the culprit of the murder of General Guan Yu, he was fabricated under the cover of the author's idea of "supporting Liu and restraining Cao", and died of seven holes of blood because Guan Yu was chasing his soul. Monroe's strategy of conquering Jingzhou and disintegrating the morale of Guan Yu's troops in the front line of Wei was recognized by later military strategists and regarded as a model.

In the later period of the novel, Sima Yi, the commander-in-chief of Wei Jun, softened the hostility of the Shu army by appeasement in the war against Shu, which shows that this is a story imitating Lu Meng's attack on Jingzhou.

According to Shouchun's anti-Wei campaign in Huainan, when Sima Shi was preparing to crusade against him, Su once offered a plan to appease the families of Huainan soldiers who stayed in the Central Plains, to show their fighting spirit, and also mentioned the attack on Jingzhou. In the Peking Opera Walking in Maicheng, there is a corner of Lv Meng, whose face is covered with three blue and white tiles.
