Why has the Yellow Sea been the territory of China since ancient times?
The Yellow Sea is the marginal sea of the western Pacific Ocean, which lies between Chinese mainland and the Korean Peninsula. The Yellow Sea, with an average depth of 44 meters and a gentle seabed, is a part of the East Asian continental shelf. The main rivers flowing into the Yellow Sea are Yalu River, Datong River, Hanjiang River and Huaihe River, and the main coastal cities are Dalian, Dandong, Seoul, Qingdao, Yantai and Lianyungang.

The Yellow Sea, known as the "West Sea" on the Korean Peninsula (the Chinese pinyin Yellow Sea, embedded in Korean), is a shallow sea completely occupied by the continental shelf. It is located between China and the Korean Peninsula, bordering China in the north and west, and the Korean Peninsula in the east.

Major rivers in China, such as Huaihe River, Biliuhe River, Yalu River, Han River, Datong River and Qingchuan River on the Korean Peninsula, all flow into the Yellow Sea, which is named because the rivers carry too much sediment and make the nearby seawater yellow.
