The Asian Youth Games, referred to as the Asian Youth Games, is the largest comprehensive youth games in Asia, and is hosted by the member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia in turn. Held every four years, starting from 20021,alternating with the Youth Olympic Games.

The Asian Youth Olympic Games will include at least 9 of the 28 Olympic events, lasting about 9 days. The athletes are between the ages of 14 and 17, and come from 45 countries and regions in Asia.

On April 3, 2008, in order to support the development of the Youth Olympic Games and better promote Asian youth sports, the OCA adopted the proposal of establishing the Asian Youth Games with young people as the main body at the 52nd Executive Committee meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand. (On July 6th, 2007, the IOC officially announced the establishment of the Youth Olympic Games at its119th plenary meeting in Guatemala.

From June 29th to July 7th, 2009, the 1st Asian Youth Games was held in Singapore. There are 9 major events and 90 minor events in the competition. More than 200 athletes from 43 countries and regions participated in the competition. China delegation ranked first in the gold medal list and medal list with 25 gold medals, 16 silver medals and1/kloc-0 bronze medals.

2013 August 16-24, the 2nd Asian Youth Games was held in Nanjing. There are 16 major events and 122 minor events in the competition. More than 2,400 athletes from 45 countries and regions participated in the competition.

There are 28 stadiums and gymnasiums in use, of which 19 is a competition venue and 9 are training venues. China delegation ranked first in the gold medal list and medal list with 46 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 24 bronze medals.
