The 800,000-ton/year alumina project planned and constructed by Yunnan Wenshan Aluminum Co., Ltd. officially started construction on May 6, 2008. It is a key project in the 11th Five-Year Plan of Yunnan Metallurgical Group, the largest industrial project invested since Wenshan was established as a city, one of the 20 major industrial construction projects in Yunnan Province, and one of the key projects started by the provincial government in 2008. The project will gather the most advanced alumina production technology and equipment at home and abroad, adopt advanced Bayer production technology, adopt new gas gasification technology to provide fuel, make full use of waste heat to generate electricity, and adopt ammonia desulfurization and purification technology to realize efficient, environmental-friendly and sustainable enterprise development ideas. The core equipment required for more than ten key subsystems of the project will be imported from Holland, Britain, Germany, France and other countries. Wenshan Aluminum will build a domestic landmark alumina factory with advanced technology and first-class control, with an annual output of 800,000 tons of metallurgical-grade sandy alumina.

After the completion of the project, it is estimated that the average annual sales revenue will reach 2.5 billion yuan, and the profit and tax will reach 654.38 billion yuan, which will also promote the development of machinery, energy, chemical industry, transportation and service industry in Wenshan Prefecture. The implementation of the project will not only improve the industrial chain of aluminum industry in Yunnan Province, fill the blank of alumina production in Yunnan Province, and further optimize the industrial structure of Wenshan Prefecture, but also greatly promote the leap-forward economic development of Wenshan Prefecture, build a harmonious society, realize a comprehensive well-off society, and achieve good economic and social benefits.
