[Guangdong-Hong Kong Hall] It's not easy to ask Senior Sister Qiang to do it! -The story of the Hong Kong police (2)
This time I want to share the story of a policewoman in Hong Kong.

When the police force was first established, there were no female police officers in Hong Kong. Policewomen only appeared in the 1950s. It has been more than 60 years now. However, some roles and treatment of policewomen in the police force have changed greatly.

Before there were policewomen

Before the 1950s, whenever there were female suspects, they were searched and so on, and the police would hastily recruit some "female searchers" to carry out investigations.

Because most of the recruits are family members of the police and middle-aged women, they are also commonly known as "aunts".

But unlike ordinary policemen, "Auntie" is not a member of the disciplined forces.

In fact, during the Japanese invasion of China, many war-affected refugees fled to Hong Kong, many of whom were women with low academic qualifications. In order to make a living, they have no choice but to join Huangshang. Before 1935, Huang Shang could still operate with a license. After the later ban, the business has not disappeared, the problem of human trafficking is still serious, and various criminal activities related to yellow merchants are still rampant. At that time, when the Protection of Women and Children Ordinance was passed, the police force needed more female law enforcement officers to protect women and children.

The first policewoman

The first female police officer in Hong Kong was Ma Zhonghua, also known as Gao, 1949 who joined the police force. Xu Jintao is proficient in many languages. As soon as I joined the police force, I was responsible for all kinds of documents, case records and translation. It was not until a few months after joining the company that he was sent to handle the case.

With the appearance of the first female deputy inspector, the agenda of recruiting female police officers has also been put on the agenda. Love undercover is coming to kill "aunt"

195 1 year, she was responsible for selecting and recruiting the first batch of policewomen, totaling 10.

Equality between men and women? Inequality?

When recruiting policewomen in 1950s, in fact, we can see that there is inequality from the requirements of taking the exam.

At that time, there was already family role discrimination, and those who wanted to recruit policewomen had to be unmarried! ! !

This practice called "marriage bar" is not unique to Hong Kong. This was common in many western countries in the first half of the 20th century. This poor woman has worked in the police force for some time. If she wants to get married, she will have to "resign" after marriage. If you want to continue working, it can only be a short-term contract.

This may also be related to the fact that the work arrangement of female roles in the early police force was different from that of men. Policewomen mainly arrange to do some civil work and work related to women and children, but I still don't understand why they must be unmarried.

In addition to the application requirements, in fact, at that time, it seemed that the requirement of equivalent education was not easy for women. After all, there were really not many women who could receive education at that time.

In terms of treatment, the early female police officers and male police officers were also different and were not included in the same establishment. Not being in the same institution means different pay for equal work. In the 1960s, the monthly salary of newly recruited policewomen was 180, and that of male colleagues was 240, a full third more. And the pension has nothing to do with the policewoman, because when they first recruited, they didn't expect the policewoman to stay in the police force for a long time.

Seeing these treatment requirements, it seems that we also perceive some inequalities.

But in fact, in the police force with more women than men, the policewoman is the princess. When the policewoman first appeared in the police station, curiosity gave birth to a lot of gentlemanly demeanor. As one of the first policewomen, I remember that she was not discriminated against in the police station and was very popular. You will be accompanied by a handsome policeman when you patrol. A police car? Escort the male boss not to hand over the most dangerous job to the policewoman. When the boss learned that he was pregnant, he didn't have to work outdoors for a while. Anyway, it is well taken care of!

The concept of "equality between men and women" gradually became popular in 1960s. By 1972, the "marriage barrier" was lifted and equal pay for equal work was realized. However, the male police's male chauvinism still drives them to play the role of protecting the female police.

Women don't let men, and policewomen are the first to be violent.

During the period of 1953, it was widely rumored that a bank was going to close down, so many women gathered in front of the president's house and asked the president to intervene to protect the rights and interests of bank deposits. The policewoman's soft anti-riot function began to appear slowly! Responsible for persuading women.

At first, the policewoman had no riot training. Since the11960 s, demonstrations have been going on continuously, and the number of women participating in demonstrations and public activities has increased. Therefore, the police arranged for more female police officers to receive regular riot training. Compared with male policemen, the appearance of female policemen can restrain the rise of violence. After all, "good men don't fight with women" and "men don't hit women", but women can't fight with their hair.

1992, the police set up the first all-female mobile force brigade "Tango Brigade" to deal with public security issues.

In the past, the police emphasized the use of force when dealing with public order problems, but various situations have proved that force can lead to many problems and even backfire. I can't help thinking, if the policewoman comes out to do riot prevention, will the result be different? However, if there is no deep-rooted gender concept of "good men don't beat women" and "men don't beat women", under "gender equality", it is actually a kind of helplessness.

Being a policewoman is not worrying about getting married.

Back to the treatment of policewomen, there is another interesting point.

Although the early policewomen were paid less than their male colleagues and even did not have dormitory benefits, they had "dowry expenses"

The policewoman has worked for five years and has no bad record. When she gets married, she will have the opportunity to get a special allowance of about 3000 yuan. At that time, it was an enviable "gift". However, unlike "marriage at the same level", the husband of a policewoman applying for allowance cannot be a police officer at the same level. Well, it is still possible to get married between superiors and subordinates.

Elder martial sister Tuoqiang is really awesome.

Hong Kong gangster movies are simply classics. Among them, the classic featuring policewoman must mention "Sister Tuo Qiang".

In the early days, although female police officers joined the police force and participated in pistol training, they did not have to carry guns on duty after taking office, so they did not have to accept formal shooting training and examinations.

Even if I want to take part in some riot prevention work in the future, there are still no policewomen with guns.

Although the first gun-equipped teacher and sister appeared in the 1950s, the gun-equipped system for policewomen was only implemented in 1995.

With guns, policewomen feel more obvious equality between men and women.

It turns out that in addition to "Sister Tuo Gun", there is another special policewoman in the police force, "Tuo Shi Barna? The teacher elder sister ".

In the 1970s, the Marine Police recruited female police officers from land scenic spots to perform water law enforcement tasks. However, "Tuo Shi Barna" is more difficult than "Tuoqiang". Because when you need to communicate with law enforcement personnel at home and abroad by radio communication, it goes without saying that you have good language skills, you need to know how to use Morse code, and you also have high requirements for calculation and analysis. If you can become "Sister Tusibana", you must be a smart and brave schoolmaster!

In fact, the policewoman in uniform is really a handsome role, which also shows that the gender division of labor in work and life is not absolute.

Well, that's the end of the story. I hope today's sharing will let you know more!
