What is Yan Fu's contribution in the history of literature?
Yan Fu is a famous translator in modern China. In his time, natural scientists in western Europe discovered the law of conservation and transformation of energy. 1859, Darwin published the Origin of Species and put forward the theory of biological evolution. Yan Fu learned from the west, tried his best to absorb the new achievements of modern western natural science and new knowledge of sociology and philosophy, and actively introduced them. From 1896 to 1908, Huxley's Evolution, Adam Smith's Original Wealth, John Mueller's Boundaries and Famous Studies of Group Rights, Spencer's Prejudice in Group Studies, and Jencks's General Interpretation of Society have been translated successively. His translations were later compiled into A Collection of Yan Translated Works.
