History of Uzbekistan national men's football team;
Since Uzbekistan became independent from the Soviet Union, their first international football match was against Tajikistan. In Uzbekistan's short football history, their most brilliant one is undoubtedly the one when 1994 won the Asian Games championship. Under the leadership of then head coach Akalov, they won six games in a row in that competition, including South Korea in the semi-final 1-0, and China in the final 4-2 to win the gold medal.
That competition was the first time that a Central Asian team appeared in an Asian competition, and Uzbekistan won the football championship in that Asian Games. But after that, Uzbekistan did not have an impressive record in Asian games. In the 2004 Asian Cup, Uzbekistan successfully advanced to the semi-finals in the final. Although it lost to Bahrain in the end, it was only a penalty.
