Let me introduce this Buddha statue first. What's its name? Mengshan Buddha? I believe all travelers with religious beliefs have heard of the name of this giant Buddha. Mengshan Giant Buddha is located on the cliff in the northwest of Sidi Village, Jinyuan District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It is a cultural relic protection unit in Taiyuan, with a height of 66 meters and a very large body. Mengshan Giant Buddha was built in 55 1 year, which is the earliest large-scale stone Buddha statue in the world, more than 60 years earlier than the famous Leshan Giant Buddha.
Bian Xiao learned from his tour guide friends that the Mengshan Giant Buddha was built in the early days of Kaihua Temple in the Pure Land Sect of Buddhism. It was carved on a cliff stone, and the project was huge. It is said that during the Tang Gaozong period, when Li Zhi and Wu Zetian visited Kaihua Temple, Wu Zetian was shocked to see the Buddha, and ordered someone to make a big cassock for the Buddha, which made the Mengshan Buddha famous and admired by the world.
The tour guide friend went on to say that in the park in 844, Kaihua Temple was abandoned due to Tang Wuzong's policy of exterminating Buddhism, and Mengshan Giant Buddha also experienced many storms. Until the war at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Mengshan Buddha was also destroyed together, leaving only a huge body hidden among rocks and disappearing in front of the world. Many experts can't explain why it disappeared. 1983, after 600 years, Mengshan Giant Buddha was discovered by accident. However, due to years of hiding underground for too long, the Buddha statue has been seriously damaged and even lost its head. In order to preserve this great building, the country later rebuilt the 12-meter-high Buddha head for the Mengshan Giant Buddha. Under the protection of the state, Mengshan Giant Buddha reappeared in people's field of vision and became a popular tourist attraction.
I don't know if you have been to see the Mengshan Buddha. what do you think of it ? Welcome to leave a comment!
