The first volume of the eighth grade Chinese Lesson 24 Gong Yu's translation of Yishan
The original translation of Yu Gong Yi Shan;

Taihang Mountain and Wuwangshan Mountain, 700 miles away in Fiona Fang, are seven or eight thousand feet above sea level. They were originally in the south of Jizhou, north of the Yellow River. There is a man named Gong Yu at the foot of the North Mountain. He is almost ninety years old and lives directly opposite the mountain. He suffers from the traffic jam in the northern part of the mountain area, so he has to make a detour when he comes out or goes in. He called the whole family to discuss and said, I'll try my best to level the steep mountain with you and go all the way to the south of Yuzhou and reach the south bank of Hanshui River, okay?

Everyone agreed. His wife questioned: with your strength, even the top of the Quiff can't be leveled. What can you do to Taihang Mountain and the palace? Besides, where are the excavated soil and stones? They said, throw it on the edge of the Bohai Sea, north of the hidden soil.

So Gong Yu led three children and grandchildren who could carry the burden (up the mountain), chiseled stones and dug dirt, and transported them to the Bohai Sea with dustpans. The wife of the neighbor widow has a posthumous child, who just changed her teeth and skipped to help him.

Winter and summer change seasons only once. The mistake of meandering stopped Gong Yu with a smile and said, You are so stupid! With your remaining years and strength, you can't even move a grass on the mountain. What can you do with mud and stones? Gong Yu of Beishan sighed: Your thoughts are so stubborn that you can't begin to understand, even orphans and widows can't compare with you.

Even if I die, I still have a son; Son gives birth to grandson, grandson gives birth to son; A son has a son and a son has a grandson; Children and grandchildren are endless, but mountains do not increase. Why worry about digging uneven mountains? There is nothing to answer about knowing beans in a meandering river.

The mountain god heard about it and was afraid that he would dig endlessly and report it to the Emperor of Heaven. The emperor was moved by Yugong's sincerity. He ordered the two sons of Hercules Kwae to move two mountains, one in the east of Shuofang and the other in the south of Yongzhou. From then on, from the south of Jizhou to the south bank of Hanshui River, there was no mountain barrier.

The Spiritual Embodiment of Yugong Yishan;

Gong Yu is not afraid of difficulties. Facing two big mountains, he decided to move them. He was not intimidated by the immediate difficulties, but chose persistence and hard work. This indomitable spirit is worth learning.

Gong Yu firmly believes that as long as he keeps digging mountains, he will succeed one day. His belief is very firm and has never wavered. This firm belief enabled him to overcome all kinds of difficulties and setbacks.

3. Gong Yu is tenacious. He is old, but he still insists on digging mountains every day. His perseverance and indomitable spirit are admirable.

Gong Yu has the courage to take responsibility. He knew that digging a mountain was an arduous task, but he didn't flinch, but bravely assumed the responsibility. He led his family and villagers to dig mountains together and finally achieved his goal.

These spirits are exactly what we need to learn and draw lessons from in our life and work. Only like Gong Yu, who is fearless of difficulties, firm in belief, persistent in pursuit and brave in taking responsibility, can we overcome all kinds of difficulties and setbacks and achieve our goals.

6. Gong Yu pursues persistently. His goal is to make roads unimpeded and make it convenient for villagers to travel. He persevered and never gave up his pursuit.
