Yuan Chonghuan, a native of Dongguan, Guangdong, is bold and courageous, and likes to talk about military affairs with others. When they meet veterans, they often ask about the military situation in the frontier and are interested in frontier affairs [4]. He also likes to travel far, and he often travels around the world several times when he goes to Beijing for exams [7]. On the way, I often talk with my friends all night, and the content also involves the military [8].

In the forty-seventh year of Wanli (16 19), he was the 40th scholar in the top three languages in Yuan Chonghuan, and served as the magistrate of Shaowu, Fujian. In the second year of the Apocalypse (1622), when he went to Beijing to report on his work, he was promoted to the Ministry of War History [10] [1] because of the recommendation of Hou Xun, an ancient scholar. At that time, the nomads were in full swing, Wang Huazhen's army was wiped out in Quang Ninh, and the court panicked; The courtiers discussed whether they could hold Shanhaiguan. Yuan Chonghuan is going through customs alone to inspect the situation at this time, and the Ministry of War and his family are missing. Soon, he returned to Beijing and wrote a report to close the situation, saying, "As long as you give me soldiers, horses, grain and grass, I can hold Shanhaiguan alone." [12] His courage was praised by courtiers [13], so he was promoted to be a soldier and was responsible for guarding Shanhaiguan [14][ 15], and was approved by the court to recruit soldiers [16] [65438]

After Yuan Chonghuan arrived at Shanhaiguan, he became a subordinate of King Zaijin of Liaodong. At that time, the Commissioner had been controlled by Mongolian Harsing ministries, and Yuan Chonghuan was only stationed in the Commissioner at first. Soon, he was relied on by Wang Zaijin because of his ability, and he was ordered to move to Zhongqian, and then he was ordered to go to Qiantunwei to resettle Liaodong refugees. Yuan Chonghuan set out overnight and entered Qiantun City at four o'clock, and all the soldiers were amazed [19]. After the job was done, Wang played the title of Yuan Chonghuan's reserve soldiers in the Jin Dynasty [20], and was responsible for the defense of Ningyuan and Qiantun Wei, forming fortifications to protect the periphery of Shanhaiguan. Ningyuan is on the front line, and the former Tunwei is behind. However, on the defense arrangement, the two men had differences. Wang advocated building the city in Bali, which is 80 miles away from Shanhaiguan, while Yuan thought that the peripheral location was too narrow, which was not a good policy. After the argument failed, Yuan Yue used the record of Ye [2 1] as the keynote. At Zuo Guangdou's proposal, Sun Chengzong, a university student, was in charge of the Ministry of War together with cabinet ministers, and toured Liaodong.

At that time, after the attack of Guangning in the late Jin Dynasty, people in Jinzhou and Yizhou were forced to move eastward. Among them, Yizhou occupied thirteen mountains and repelled the attack of the late Jin army many times. After a long time, the gold could not be captured, and a long siege was built. Thirteen mountain leaders, Yang San and Bi Mazi, sent people to break through and ask for help from the Ming army. Yuan Chonghuan pleaded, "Send 5,000 troops to defend Ningyuan to strengthen the momentum of Thirteen Mountains, and send other troops to participate in the rescue. Better stay 200 miles away from the Ming Tombs. If you enter, you can occupy Jinzhou. If you retire, you can stick to Ningyuan. Why do you want to abandon 100,000 people? " Sun Chengzong asked the Governor Wang Xianggan. Wang Xianggan thought that Guan Jun was distracted, so he asked to send 3,000 people into the customs. Sun Chengzong thought it was feasible [22], so he told Wang Zaijin. Wang Zaijin did not agree to the rescue, resulting in only 6,000 people of the Thirteen Mountains militia fleeing [23].

Sun Chengzong decided to go out of the city and recover Liaodong with Xu Tu, so he called all the officials to discuss. Yan Mingtai advocated building a city on Juehua Island, Yuan Chonghuan advocated Ningyuan, and Wang Zaijin, Zhang and Xing advocated building mountains and seas. Finally, Sun Chengzong adopted Yuan Chonghuan's opinion [24]. Soon, after Sun Chengzong returned to Beijing, he wrote to Ming Xizong, demanding that Wang be relieved of his post in Liaodong and Jin, and was appointed as, guarding Shanhaiguan and relying more on Yuan Chonghuan. Yuan appeased the military and civilians internally and rectified the border defense externally, with remarkable achievements [25]; And strict law enforcement, military discipline has been greatly improved [26].
